Took a 8 month old back and she tested positive for this. She is on doxycycline for 30 days. No symtoms. Anyone else deal with this and can tell me your experience.( Its a tick born disease )

yes,,I have had all 4 of my dogs come up positive for anaplasmosis. One of my aussies and one of my gsd's, were showing mild symptoms, my male aussie and female gsd were showing no symptoms but came up positive..This was almost 1.5 years ago. Treated with HIGH doses of doxy for 60 days..Retested my male gsd who continuously keeps coming up high positive. We can't seem to get the numbers down or a negative on him. :(( he's suffered some neuro damage because of it.
Around here, my vets tend to attack the tick diseases with a high doses of doxy and longer period of times. 30 days just doesn't seem to cut it here, but all dogs are different.
It's not worth retestng for atleast 6 months after the start of treatment because it will most likely still be in their systems at higher levels.
Good luck to you.

Yup, all my dogs also all came up positive for Anaplasmosis every year the last several years. We treat yearly with Doxy. Jakota and I are not far from each other (same state) so it is obviosly very popular here in New England. No known symptoms unless that's why we can't get my bitch to carry a litter and I am told this is a possibility.
It's pretty much like Lyme and the symptoms can be very similar.

Thanks for repling. I talk to the orginal Vet who did'nt seem to know a whole lot about it. Had to refer to a handbook. I talk to my Vet and he wants a test to go to the state lab after the meds are gone(20 more days). It was diagnosed with a 4 way heart worm test. Also a note. 4 months prior the original Vet gave the pup a 4th booster including Lyme vaccine. I ask my vet if he thought maybe a false positive could have resulted. He said "Yes there are some cross reactivity problems with some tests"

I dont' know if a Lyme vac tho would induce a false positive when it came to anaplasmosis..I DO know, say you did just a Lyme test, you would NOT detect anaplasmosis from a lyme test. SNAP 4, (which you did) is how mine were tested as well. SNAP 4 is , Lyme, HW, canine erhlichia and equii erhlichia (anaplasmosis).
It's kinda funny, about 4 years ago, my aussie was VERY sick, no one could diagnose, I came across anaplasmosis site and thought I'd test her for it, that test ALONE cost me 150$. My vets kept saying, don't do it, it's highly unlikely the dog has anaplasmosis. At that time she was negative. NOW, years later, my vet is saying "gee remember when", "well 95% of the dogs tested now adays are coming up positive for anaplasmosis vs Lyme..and heck the snap 4 costs around 65$ !!!
This is a site I found useful http://www.lakelandveterinaryhospital.com/Anaplasmosis.htm

He did say "cross reactivity". Thanks for the link. I found it very informational. This is a pup that we have taken back due to the owner selling their house and could'nt keep her. They did not know nothing about any ticks on her and are about 100 east of me.The pup exibits no signs. We have had her 2 weeks and she is acting normal, eatting normal. They only took her in for a heart worm check before they brought her to my place. I just wanted to find out all I could about it. as I need to rehome this pup. I already have someone interested but explained to them whats going on and that she needs to stay with us till her meds are done. And she needs to be spayed.
