I just want to know if anyone out there has had problems with diamond naturals chicken and rice formula. My gsd's all have suffered on it. Their coats are dull. It seems everytime I open a new bag, They get the runs atleast half of them (5). Most of my dogs are not breeders. Some rescue dogs. I cant affoed orijen or solid gold anymore. Does anyone know of an affordable food? I tried chicken soup before loose stools :( . Thanks

Try California Naturals for a cheaper cost but better food. Diamond Naturals killed my rats and my dog looked like hell on it until she finally refussed to eat it one day, after I opened a new bag. She now eats CN Herring and potatoe and looks like a brand new dog. I feel horrible having fed her that Diamond crap for years. My other dogs get Orijen and Raw Chicken when I can afford it.

4Pack,
Did you ever get any lab results back from a necropsy on your rats? I would be curious to have seen liver and kidney values, etc....
That said, I don't have a problem with Diamond. I have fed it for 20 yrs off/on....My dogs all do well on it.
I really like the Taste of the Wild.
I have also fed Diamond Naturals, and my dogs look great on it.

Dog trainer, do you also have shepherds? I mean all my dogs have bad coats and my male who is usually playful, is now a couch potato.

Andy my female did the same thing, not herself, low energy looked like she was going down hill. She just hit 8ish, she's a rescue so don't know her actual b-day but I thought here she is getting old. Less muscle, wobble in her gate, just looked like she was sick, I even thought she's got a tumor somewhere. I just lost 2 dogs last year and was freaking at the idea of putting another down. My male fed Diamond was put down after his Osteosarcoma became too painfull and a s howline female had renal failure, when she refussed to eat for days and I was giving her water out of a syringe to keep her going, I finally called it quits for her. There wasn't much left to necropsy after I put my rats out of their missery. Didn't need to waste what little $ I have left when the healthy dogs are eatting TOTW, Orijen, RAW, TimberWolf Organics and such foods and doing fine. I too fed Diamond for many years with fine results, until the last year and a half.

LL,
Yes, I have a GSD. Leri Gallon, a Danish Import. He is currently on TOTW.
GSD's have always been my second breed of choice, next to Rotties. So, over the years, I have had a number of them pass through my hands.
For whatever reason, knock on wood, I have never had an issue with skin problems, other than an occassional hot spot.
I have 7 dogs total, and all of them save 1 is on Diamond or TOTW(made by Diamond). With the exception of my Min. Schnauzer, who is 7-9 yr of age, whom I "inheirited", all of their coats look great. Largo, my avatar Rottie, doesn't tolerate processed grains very well, and will develop hot spots no matter what you feed her. If it has grain in it, she gets a hot spot. Kept on TOTW, she is fine, no issues.
Caden my male Rottie gets 1/2 Diamond(either Performance or Natural ch/Rice) and 1/2 TOTW, with a "Whole Meal Bone" in the AM.
Ricky, my CH. Finnish Spitz(hopefully, fingers crossed, we will be going to Eukanuba this year), eats TOTW or Diamond, whichever is closest to his crate that day.
Charley, a pug rescue is getting 1/2 Diamond 1/2 TOTW.
Jake, my old Schnauzer gets Diamond
Inde, the JRT, long term boarder, is on Diamond.
Gallon, my GSD, gets TOTW with some Diamond thrown in every now and then for good measure.
When I lived in Indiana, I had 5 GSD's at any given time, and I fed Diamond Maintenance Recipe(At that time, it was about $13.00 for a 50lb bag.) All my dogs did great on it.
I do "supplement" occassionally. Largo gets either a leg/wing, thigh, or neck in the morning. Jake gets whatever leftovers I have(he has a cast iron tummy). Inde likes fruit, so I split an apple a day with him....Hey, does that only mean I won't have to see the DR 1/2 the time????
I find it interesting, not being an ass, seriously, I am really interested, as to why some have issues with it, and others don't. I wish I had the answer to that, I would be a millionare.....speaking of which, think I will go get a cup of coffee and check my lottery numbers!

4pack what pisses me off is that I try to buy the best dog food I can afford. I know a breeder who shows her daschunds and rotties. she feeds pedigree with cottage cheese. her dogs always have great coats. GO FIGURE ! Dogs raised on pedigree "grains" looking better then my dogs on D naturals.

I feed Diamon Naturals C/R formula. I have never had dull coats or run or lack of energy. I used to feed Canidae. I never had a problem with it until I got a new pup and he couldn't keep wieght on. A friend sugested the Diamond and his weight picked up and his coat was much better and my older dogs have done very well on it also. I guess like everything else it depends on the individual dog.
