I think the signs are good.  We could say much about the ineptitude and the avarice of the KC, most of it's already been said... by many!  However, IF they come up with the goods, that has to be what's important now.

Shame on them, that it took such a prejudiced and inflammatory programme to galvanise them into action!

Sorry, but IMHO its not the KC that has got the gs into the state its in. Its the Breeders. And untill those so called reputable breeders are totally honest about health problems in their animals  then we are all living in cloud cuckoo land.  For many its a case of " DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO"  "DOUBLE STANDARDS AND HYPOCRICY"

Brady Bee, a great many breeders ARE reputable.  We all know that there are breeders who are less so.  The KC should have taken more responsibility many years ago... they should have been refusing to register litters from dogs who had not had the relevant health checks pertinent to that particular breed... but the KC is about making money first!

Don't blame THE KENNEL CLUB’S ,Its the Breeders to look at themself first , they did the mating ,Who would you call a  reputable breeders someone with 10/20/30 years in the breed , I don't think so.

You are so right  Brady bee.I see so many unsound gsd in the UK and Germany and they still win , Most judge,s are breeder and they should put a stop to it , but money is money ,  that is why the show seen in the UK is going down ,we need to stand up to the top kennels . The KC is about making money, so what so are the breeders.

Well said BRADY BEE and gsherwood. MISSBEEB believe me BRADYBEE knows there are reputable breeders, the problem is they are way out numbered by the disreputable. But it is nice to know that some breeders have privy to "KENNEL CLUB PLANS" that 's a first in my 40 years expeiience!!!!!!. liz

Bad / money grabbing breeders are not news but it's unreasonable to tar all breeders with the same brush... bad breeders have been allowed to flourish... by the KC.   What I'm saying is, the KC could have made a huge difference years ago... if money was not their priority.  I don't know any decent breeder of any breed who would disagree with that.

MISSBEEB,I DO NOT DISAGREE ON THE K.C,BUT I AM ONE OF THE OLDIES HEAR AND STILL THINK A LOT OF BREEDERS,PLEASE NOTE NOT ALL BREEDERS,ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE "AILMENTS" SEEN IN THE BREED TO DAY.THE BLAME CANNOT BE PUT ON THE K.C COMPLETELY,AND IF THE K.C ARE BEING ASKED TO STEP UP TO THE MARK THEN SO SHOULD BREEDERS THAT ARE LESS THAN HONEST ABOUT THIER OWN ETHICS. LIZ

Missbeeb

Just because a breeder does all the available health screening does not make them a reputable breeder.  It depends what they do with the information gained from the results that counts!! Also as I have said before, there are many conditions that cant be tested for unless clinical signs are present. I know of more than one breeder who has been aware of one of these conditions in their breeding programme and used the animal regardless, and thats more than one TOO MANY.  Just keep your fingers crossed and hope it will be ok.  LOL
