Anyone just finished building new kennels and are either delighted with how they turned out or regret the way in which they were designed. I am in the process of trying to design a new kennel set up and want to do it right. I am looking to house 6 GSD's  2 dogs 4 bitches. (I will be using my existing kennels as a breeding area and it is 50mts away from new site) I would like to know your views as to whether or not they should alll be in a row and not 3 opposite 3 or have seperate run areas? look forward to your educated suggestions or views.

I just got my kennels done and I have 8 indoor/outdoor runs. There are 4 runs on each side and they face eachother.  The only thing I would have done different was stagger the doors so that they weren't looking at each other all the time!  I think that would have cut down on all the barking at one another.

Hi Vickie, thanks for your reply.

Can they only see each other from the doors? and would you run them all in a line instead of facing each other.

Most important in my opinion, having screwed it up on our new building: drainage and floor (concrete) surface. Mine is a disaster. I'd almost burn it to the ground and start over, but that stilll souldn't fix the slab.

Thanks Shelly,

Have my floor sorted 100% I know all about messing up there...... no pun intended! Mirror finish screed and drains running along each wall all seperate to a main drain. Only thing not sure of is to face 3 opposite 3 or run the all along side each other?

I like the staggered opposing door idea. Less barking. I have one kennel completely seperate from the rest for my fence fighter. Need one more. Shelley hates vet bills.

Good luck- SS

I used an artificial wood with a lifetime guarantee for my floors. Like much better than old concrete and easier on dogs. Cleans easily

If I could do it all over again, I would definitely structure the layout so that they could not see eachother-outside or in!  In my outside runs I have a cement "sidewalk" perimeter and have cypress mulch in the center.  This is very easy to clean, nice drainage and the dogs don't wear the sides down pacing and makes the run much more stable.
