Warning! The following post contains statistical analysis of FCI scores, performed using Minitab v.15 by an engineer who enjoys crunching numbers for a living. Calculations may cause dizziness and/or nausea. Readers experiencing such symptoms are advised to choose another thread immediately. You have been warned.
OK, GSD fans, it's time to kick it up a notch! At the FCI championship the GSD's held their own against the Maligators in Tracking, but slipped behind them in Obedience and Protection. Oy vey! I'll never hear the end of it from my hubby (Malinois guy). He'll be gloating until next year...

I love, own and train gsd, but seems that malis are at least "statistically" above them when it comes to the points. It would be very interesting to have this type of analisis of previuos years in order to see if there is a modification of the statistics.
thanks for the info.
Mariano.

I love this stuff, though not surprised, it puts a nice perspective on things. Thanks Yvette!

I would like to see the same statistics for the 2007 FCI in Italy as a comparison. Can you accomplish the same statistical report for this trial? Thanks.

One thing to consider is that the FCI doesn't consist of ALL the top GSDs in the world. I do believe that the entire German team consisted of Malis. Some of the top GSD handlers are concentrationg on the WUSV. I'm not saying that the Mals are not superior or are inferior, but are the top GSDs really represented in the FCI? This is hard to gauge when Mals aren't allowed to compete in some of the high GSD trials.

Don, you are making the assumption that the best Malinois are at the FCI. They are not.
Come guys let’s get real and shine some light on this. Here is something that I believe is starting to become quit evident. The malinois on average is a better dog than the GSD at all dogsports. In any venue from flyball and dockdiving to schutzhund and the ringsports, the Malinois post higher average scores than the GSD.
And this will not change until either the Malinois breeders start to follow SV style breeding practices. I find this doubtful. Or GSD breeders pull their heads out of the sand, stop making excuses when the numbers are staring you right in the face and change the way you breed. I find this very doubtful.

Malis are healthier too! Do not let the show people get their hands on this breed.
I still prefer a GSD for patrol work though. And I prefer a good rott for personal protection.
