I took a call tonight from someone wanting a Black and Red GSD puppy.
Anyone have one on the ground now?
This guy's doesn't care about paper's and doesn''t understand one line from another, he just want's a Black and Red GSD.
I'm at a loss... but this was the topic of a recent thread about what the general public is buying. This fit's that particular thread to a T !!
Should I help this man find a good dog, or let him buy an anything's possible dog? Or just tell him I didn't have any luck at all and turn him loose with a news paper?
Opinion's please.

i would say help him. but i would start looking at rescues and shelters first. if he doesnt care about pedigree then maybe he wouldnt care if it is full blood?

John,
Rescue's were brought up.
He does want a pure bred GSD, he just doesn't know a lot more than that.
I guess what I'm saying is that's his only real criteria, pure bred , black and red.
He's looking for a pet with no other qualification's. Considering what he know's and understand's in relation to the breed, I don't think I would sell him a pup if I had one for sale. But someone will.
This is what we were discussing on another thread.... John Q. Public
How could you begin to educate someone who doesn't care to know?
My feeling's are to look away and mind my own business because I don't see a happy ending.
It's the wrong dog for the wrong person in my opinion.

i understand what your saying, and it is the sad truth that there are numerous people willing to sell this person one of their dogs for money.
you could always sing the praises of the white shepherd. i think they are always willing to sell also.
your best bet would be to let it go, and hope the next person you talk to is more willing to listen and learn. you can really hurt yourself banging your head against the wall, and it doesnt make the wall any smarter either.

If you dont see a happy ending, here are some things you can tell him:
tell him you know of no puppies available that fits his criteria.
You can tell him that you only know of puppies that need to go to an experienced and previous shepherd owner.
Tell him you can' t help him at this time and wish him luck in his search.
Just walk away and be glad one of your pups aren't being put in a bad situation.
I had a call 3 days ago that seen me and my two shepherds walking, Willow is 18 months and Rosie 14 weeks and they wanted a police dog too, i said well I dont have police dogs, just German Shepherds and that my dogs are trained strictly for therapy work and they need to research more. They asked for some more info and are coming by to meet my dogs soon and want to learn more to see if they are the right dog for them.
I got someone who asked me today what Rosie was mixed with because she has goofy ears, I said she is a AKC Registered Shepherd and they said wow you got taken she is definately a mutt, I said she is teething and sooneher ears will be straight up, Here is her picture, a mutt?? NO!! Some people are so dense.

LOL.... he didn't want a white Shepherd..
In the end I don't think I can educate him as to what he need's to do to properly raise a GSD.
I know him as a nieghbor and I don't think he would not take good care of the dog, but he would not train it or worry about it running and gettiing into trouble, either ending up shot or hit by a car. It would be just another farm dog to set on the porch.
I'll talk with him again but he want's a GSD and he will find one somewere.

:Lets not bash the white shepherd..They were a fad nad over bred to just to be white. They were once used hmm a century ago to improve pigment...by a very big name. Any one that is looking for a black/red has joined onto a chain..wouldn't go there.Boss is Black/red but he more than just a colour...and he is 6 haha.Woner if their are any old blood hounds of big age that he can adopt and just snooze away..

Not knockin the white's rainhaus.
Just explaining that so many people just want a pet, they're not interested in Shutzhund or show, or even obedience training and I don't think that's good for a GSD. They need more than your garden variety pet dog or they have problem's.
But people want what they want.
Nice pup Dreamz.
