Is it possible for a dog to suffer from this infection without diplaying some of the common overlooked (upper respiratory type) symptoms? Would this infection cause leisions on a dog's intestine, and could a sample form those lesions confirm the infection? I know a few dogs who've had it, a dog of a friend has just been diagnosed but seems ot haev completely different symptoms, any insight of info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Histoplasmosis can, in fact, disseminate throughout the body and to the intestines. Feel free to post here or email me privately with additional information about signs and diagnosis. But yes, it is possible.
Regards.

No, the dog belongs to a friend of mine in Kansas. They were having trouble figuring out what was wrong with her, I was disturbed because it appeared as thought his vet chose to open her up for what appeared to be simply weight loss and chronic diarrhea. At least, that's what I have gathered. However, that is how they found the lesions and upon having them tested discovered she has histoplasmosis. (supposedly). The dog is very thin, shaky, not eating well. They have special ordered her a better anti-fungal medication that she will start getting this weekend. The guy's wife is really upset, I was hoping I could help find them some answers, and I have strongly encouraged him to get a second opinion. At first I was mixing it up with blastomytosis, I've known a few dogs with that, and they are apparently similar infections.

I hope the dog gets better soon. I think a dog with diarrhea is the worst.
