Shelley Strohl

by Shelley Strohl on 12 September 2008 - 14:09

I have several entries for this event, held near St. James, NY (Long Island) to be held Sept 26-28.

I want to arrive on Thursday, (practice, no risk of getting there late on Friday morning, getting lost as I usually DO) and stay till Sunday. Last year I got so messed up and lost I MISSED the whole Saturday show!
Problem: I can't find ANY affordable lodging, and none that take dogs. I try to stay in the $100./night range. I don't have anyone to share expenses with either this time. Dry camping for 3 nights is NOT an attractive option.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Shelley

Shelley,

It's been my experience that affordable lodging usually mean's no phone's and the door lock's look like they have been kicked in at least once.  And the lady in the next room seem's to have visitor's about every 20 minutes all night long...LOL

On the other hand don't some camp site's offer shower's?     Cabela's has a nifty portable shower in their catalog but you have to make your own hot water.

I agree rate's have gone up since the last time I took a road trip.   Maybe you'll find someone interested in going with you and sharing expense's.

Good luck with the search,

Brent.

Looks like Flea Bag Inn, hot and cold running hookers, or camping in the van for three nights right now.  I'm thinking this one is a No GO for sure. Drive up check in window? http://www.thecommackmotorinn.com/ I'll keep looking.

Tacky is fine... to a point. The dogs wouldn't shut up long enough to sleep all night long. I'm thinking they'd either charge the hell out of me for the dog hair in the whirlpool baths, or give me a discount for K9 security. Not sure I could rest in a heart-shaped bed on platform.

I can just imagine the dogs barking at their reflections in the mirrors on the ceiling.

How many quarters does it take to start the bed with the thousand tiny fingers of death these days? Bet that'd make the doggies howl! jh

Hey Shelley, There is an extended stay on rte 110 just off the 495 that has good rates is new and clean.  I will get you the info.  I am friends with the group at the Schaferhund SchH club and their field is unreal for shows and trials.  There is another club; the Lighthouse SchH club also friends of mine in Farmingdale, NY.  They have recommended the hotel to me in the past.  It is about 20 mins from the show site but a rather easy drive.  I grew up on LI and was a menber of the Schaferhund SchH club, when I travel back to LI, I will probably stay at this hotel.

Holy cow, just saw your reference to the Commack Motor inn.  You don't want to stay there.  I thought they only had hourly rates.  That place was the same 25 years ago.   Geez, PM me and I'll let you know what hotels are good, clean and ok for dogs.

Jim
