My son and I packed up most of his belongings from the Galveston area , as he lives in Santa fe. which is on the mainland but floods and winds are just as bad there as on the island...The island actually just flows right on over to the mainland when these catagory 3,4, or 5 storms move in. Last one I was in was in Carla and I wont live there to visit another one...

My home was fine as I lived in the North part of GALVESTON COUNTY, but over the years I watched our property line sink and the ditches became my front yard in a hard rain storm..Being a single person ,without a man to load, make decisions , etc,, I move my domain to East Texas but left my partner, son and others in the wake of this mess..We are back home in Tyler now, but hope it moves down south and doesnt cause havoc on his home he is living in. He is scheduled for foot evalutation on cutting and removing his left foot on Oct 29, so hope all storms are gone.

I took some pics of the gulf last week as it stood silent with barges and big freightlines moving about Galveston in the Ship channel..If this storm moves in these scenes will not look like these...One of the pics has my son in it and one of me , also...

Galveston East Beach is nice when it is calm and normal...when the storms rage, the old sea becomes a killer.

Look how peaceful it is in these pics..:

What a beautiful sight when the waters are calm, it truly is something to see.  I'm over here near the Dallas area, so i'll just get water but I pray that many were able to evacuate  and for those that had to stay or choose to stay,  "May God keep you and your family and homes safe." Hurricane Ike looks like he's going to be a doozy. Thank you for the pictures YellowRose.

Thanks Marlene...I will email you the rest of the info..did you call Mahon? he said he will be back around 7-8 so he needs your cell number and you make arrangements..Im excited..now to the name part...ugh.... Yes, Debbie, Im in Tyler so only rain and wind...I spent from birth till 11 years ago right in the middle of all these..in fact I was born in Galveston at John Sealy in 1943 < July> on the night of a major storm...My heritage...I was never told this until I was in my 30"s as my mom was so sick from losing my dad to fire death at American Oil and not knowing she was carrying a baby, I was born with yellow jaundice, ,but big baby and made it fine...I carry the family genes of a happy, fun loving,,but a redhead , and Katie bar the door...Hurricane tenacity, and storm bound determination...Blame it on the Weather...lol

Hey Yellow Rose,

We used to live in Santa Fe!  I loved that little town and my husband and I went to the Bussy B every morning for tea and toast.  My husband is originally from that area.  He went to Bay Area Christian School and his brother lived in Bay Cliff till he passed away.  We moved to Santa Fe just in time for that tropical storm, I think it was Allison.  We had 3 feet of water around our house but we did have a hose on "stilts" so no water in the house!

You guys take care and be careful!
