FYI.....it looks like about 12 GSD's have been tested so far, 8 are free of the gene, one, my own dog, is listed as a carrier and 3 are unreported meaning they are either carriers or at risk and their owners have not released their information to the OFA website. I also noticed that the GSD's that have been tested as clear using the Flash test are no longer on that website.

I got the results back yesterday on 3 of my dogs, as Normal. I have 4 more that are still pending. Hopefully more people will have their dogs tested.

Do you go to your Vet to have the dogs tested or another institute?  Do the dogs need to be a specific age or older prior to testing?

I too just received my results that are not yet available through their website.  Both of my girls are Normal.  Still anxiously awaiting what other DNA tests become available.

You do the test at home in about 10 seconds. All it is a cheek swab, they send pretty easy to understand instructions. Tests can be done at any age, even newborn puppies. It took about 2 weeks to get the results back on mine. I also just checked the OFA website, and mine are posted.

It may be early to get too excited, but it's encouraging to hear that so many GSD's are testing free of that gene. The original estimate was that only 25% would  be clear.  It looks more like 75% early on. My dog is neutered, so his being a carrier isn't a problem for me per se, but there are a lot of well known imported dogs in his pedigree. I think OFA only lists the vertical  pedigrees if the dogs' sire and/or dam have had tests that OFA supports. Blitz's have not, they are "a" stamped and have no other DNA tests far as I know.

Teri, I'll find the link to how to test, etc and and post it here. OFA will not  publish the carriers and affecteds without written permission from the owner.

Sachenwolf and spirmon, that's good news for you. Could you give us an idea of your dogs' pedigrees? Thanks.

Sachsenwolf,  are your girls listed in the database?   I'd really like to see their specific lines if you are willing to share?  My girl tested as a carrier,  and is linebred on e.german dogs, but carries other lines as well.   It would be very helpful for me to compare if you wouldn't mind?
