Shelley Strohl

I don't know how many of you knew her, but Pat Alley was one of my best friends for many years, an excellent woman, talented artist, tennis pro and a fine dog trainer. She left this earth Sunday only a few days after being diagnosed and hospitalized with bone cancer, doubtless met at the Rainbow Bridge by her wonderful husband Pete, and a group of very excited GSD's, including a few of mine. I hope Pete wan't sneaking a covert cigarette under the bridge when she got there. I will miss Pat terribly. Never a high profile in the sport, she was truly one of those people who made a difference in the lives of everyone who knew her, espcially this sinner. The world was a better place with Pat in it, but I am sure she is with the Lord now, bouncing tennis balls off the clouds for a pack of delighted dogs, including my personal favorite, SchH3 Sonny.Sonny. Maybe, if I am good enough in this life, I will see her again someday.

God bless you Pat. I will miss you.

Pat was a very talented artist. I have a protrait she did of my beloved Onyx and another of horses running in a storm I dearly love. She had a sonerful way with light, movement and color. I wish I could find some pix of her and Sonny, competing in trials and training some 20 years ago.

It seems that other dog people always make the best friends.

My condolences, Shelley. We walk through a veil of sorrow, but know that a better place awaits us. Your friend is there, with those who are dear to her. Be comforted by your faith, & your friends. jh

Thank you all, on behalf of Pat and everyone who loved her. A true lady to the end, and a great lover of her animals, Pat actually put her affirs in order before allowing herself to be admitted to the hospital, suspecting the worst. Her young male was returned to his breeder, who was happy to have him back. Her aged and infirm female GSD and her one-woman cat she "sent" peacefully to the Bridge to wait for her, knowing they would suffer in her absence. Once admitted and diagnosed with bone cancer last week, she refused treatment and heroic efforts, the picture of grace and dignity right to the end.

I have been asked to speak at her Memorial Service next weekend in Oroville (north of Sacramento), one of her last requests?  I don't know if I can swing the cost, even with Bereavement Fares, but I'm going to try. I have a few stories I think Pat would like me to share (and I few she might not... but would blush and tolerate in good humor  ;)

Thanks again all. You guys are the best.
