I have a dog that the back of the hock has swollen. And only this area.   I don't know

how she injured in but she is in training.  It doesn't

seem to bother her, however I am concerned it may in time.  Could it possible be

leakage of the joint sack into the surrounding tissue?  Like tennis elbow?

Any one else experience this, and how treated, and how long recovery time.

Thank you

There are several possibilities for what you are seeing, all the way from an insect sting to a joint injury. If it does not seem to bother her, I might wait a day or two but if the swelling does not go down, she should be seen by a vet for exam and possibly x-ray. Normally, if there was a ligament, tendon or joint injury causing swelling, it would surely be demonstrated with a limp or favoring the leg. To be sure, it is difficult to say without a vet exam.

Good luck.

I agree with Hodie. For me not knowing how your dogs hock comes into play with the rest of the body.It would be difficult to make a comment.Do take your dog to the vet and if you are unable to afford one...let us know.

I had a 10 year old very athletic female develop the same symptom several years ago.  A large grape size sack that felt fluid filled.  She had no other symptoms.  Our vet had no concern that it was anything other than a fatty tissue accumulation.  A year later, during a minor surgery for another issue, the vet removed the sack only to be shocked that it was a slow growing grade 2 cancer.  By the time it was removed it had grown around the tendons in a way to make complete removal of the tumor impossible.  We lost our girl 6 months ago to an unrelated cause (kidney failure).  The tumor never returned but both my vet and I learned a very valuable lesson that could have ultimately been tragic had she lived longer.

Go to your vet... and if not satisfied with the results ask for referal to an osteopath specialist... better to be proactive at this stage then let it go and risk a perminate injury

I took her to the vet.  It is a capped hock result from injury.  The vet wasn't concerned,  she didn't show any

dicomfort during the exam.  He put her on an rymadyl for a short period of a week.  Ice, and topical applications.

If it gets worse we'll go to the next step.

Thanks
