First event of its kind as far as we are aware, put on by my daughter Shirley Hutchinson at her home, with massive help from her husband Chris, and I was absolutely amazed at the organisation, the time she put into it, the timing on the day, the amount of people that came from miles, including John Ward all the way from Cornwall, and Angela Hardy who came from Norfolk, and detoured down south for her son, then up to us, starting away at 4am and Sarah Julian who brought up to see us Champion Zuberg Lyric to show everyone how to do fantastic agility… with Sarah instructing everyone with their dogs (including me and mine)  and the great way she put it over to all the juniors, gave them the full information that show champion or not, your show dog can work too in great fun ways, Lin Patterson of Fardogart arriving from Scotland to take photographs – and some unusual ones that possibly some adults will wish she never took…. and the sponsorship…, all to be recognised by Shirley in writing, but  the fun – oh, the fun !!!   I havent enjoyed myself in years like that day, and I thought I was just going to be a helper and instructor….I became a quad bike rider, and a trampoline act (act being the operative word) It was really brilliant  The kids were instructed on handling, then on judging, and then they became judges in the ring, and the adults handled dogs for them, and they placed the class as they all saw fit, and their decision was given applause They also if they chose to had a go at basic obedience, agility to their own dogs capability or the dog that they were handling….. Sarah was very knowledgeable about dogs that could and couldn’t do whichever part of the agility, as it was a huge agility course that had been hired for them, and before long, the boys were enjoying sending their dogs through the tunnel to be met with a lick at the other end… one was heard to say as he left the fenced in area with Sarah….  I`m Gonna Do That With Him When He`s Older…. That comment was worth a lot.. its what the day was about.  Also, worth a big mention in this day and age of the negative talk of GSD`s… the fact that each child “borrowed” a dog at some point of the day… for their activity… GSD`s being taken by children sometimes smaller than they were, and doing activities as I have described without being phased or being tense…. A real boost for the breed of the correct GSD. We have already had feedback, and there MUST be another one in 2009, I expect Shirley is already working on it.  The kids all got good quality commemorative tee-shirts, were instructed on clicker training and took home the tools to carry on, in their goody bags.  Some people just came to watch, and stayed all day.  The balance of breaks to keep the kids fresh and fun ways of teaching was very innovative – and it kept the kids very very excited and attentive – the comradeship between the kids at the end of the day brought a lump to your throat, they all were looking forward to the event again, and the quiet ones were busy in conversation with others arranging future meet-ups at shows – betting they would be in the same junior handling as each other.  Anyone who wasn’t there, certainly missed out, and I hope

Yes, thanks for that Kim, loved having you all there - and if folk are wondering what I was doing looking up an agility tunnel.... well I was helping Rustanville Erasmus through his first agility course, and no-one had told me that he had by-passed it and gone to the A.frame.... I just came out of the dark to see what all the laughter was about - unfortunately, it was all about my rear end sticking out of a tunnel needlessly.... well done Razz !     Mo

What a super day,and oh how the kids (large and small) enjoyed it.May it be the start of something big in years to come.

Congratulations to all the organisers you did a wonderful job, what you must do though is let us mere mortals into the secret of control of the weather!!,I do not think it was clicker! but you never know

Looking forward to the next one

Yes Julie and Tom,

I agree that the weather although I never mentioned it, turned out unexpectedly for the good - that was the icing on the cake for sure.  My first post above is stopped halfway (must have answered the phone or something) and it meant to finished with

"and I hope that any-one not there can come to the next one.  Mo - Mascani.

You wan tto see the pics of me on the quad bike then eh?  Well dont get too excited, there is a picture of everyone else zooming along, and then it comes to me, and believe me, I WAS zooming along - but somehow everyone elses picci shows speed and enjoyment and I look like the old bat out of BENIDORM (tv prog) and look from my pose as if I am on a mobility scooter !!!  I`m searching Ebay now for a quad bike, believe it... be afraid if I get one, be very afraid.   Mo

I`m all for that Paula if it gives the goodwill vibes that we all got on the day.  There was absolutely no tense atmosphere, there was no worrying about which dogs did what, or where they were placed, the kids were all enjoying themselves, so the adults (or adults by age anyways) were relaxed and I think it hit the spot it was meant too.  I want to post this beautiful photo that Lin took of my grandson Sam.  He was obviously having a meaningful conversation with the puppy that he had borrowed.....    I love it.    but I dont know how to get it from my pc to this board... any suggestions?    Mo - Mascani.
