There is a premate progesterone test being used in the UK, and it is generally successful.

Why do you assume you will need 3 tests?

From what I understand dogs are tested until they show as pre ovulation.  I have known people to test just once.

And I ask Why for the same reason....????? Why test  3 times ....?

I would imagine you could test multiple times if the levels have not reached the required amount.  When I have discussed this with my vet , they suggest testing from day 5 and if the bitch doesnt ovulate till after day 15 then it would require 3 tests.  However I have heard of people not testing till day 13 but keeping a very close eye on the bitch and where possible keeping at the same site as the stud dog.

However repeat testing for bitches who have to travel a long distance to get to a Stud dog would probably work out cheaper than driving 100's of miles for nothing.

I have been using the Premate progesterone test for several years, whenever I use an outside male or if I have a bitch with a screwy heat cycle. I have had much success with it. Well worth the purchase price. And yes I do often test the bitch 3-5 times...

what kind of question is "why test 3 times?" if you do it right and dont cheap out on trying to get your bitch pregnant, you test on days 3-5 of bleeding to get a baseline, and then tests every 2-3 days to watch for the LH surge. once it hits 2.5 - 5 nanograms, you are in ovulation at 4.77 ng by the way, you breed 48 hours after the surge, due to the eggs taking 48 hours to mature. you breed then, test the next day to make sure progesterone is stable and its not a split cycle or false heat then breed again the next day. so lets review, 1 test for a baseline, then a test every 2-3 days afterward for the LH surge which means ovulation, because if you miss it, you take a chance on missing getting her impregnated while the eggs are fertile, since they are only fertile for 2-3 days. some dogs ovulate at day 5, most dont, some at day 20, but most in the 10-14 days of bleeding range. then a test after the first breeding for assurance she ovulated. thats at least 3 tests if my math is right. any questions? and yes i will either be traveling 750 miles to breed, or having chilled semen shipped, so it is very important to test and get the ovulation pinned down. did you follow me yellowrose or do we need another review? i dont have a stud to turn her out with for a week or two to make my chances better of impregnation.

I did use it and It worked for my bitch.  we did 3 test on her.

On a another time I did 3 progesterone test at the vet for insemination with refresh semen..It worked too.

To be sure you HAVE to do 3 to 5 test ..only one test doesn't mean anything..You better just take your money and flush it away!!
