My GSD is 75# I have been feeding app. 4 cups of RC24 per day. The wieght of 4 cups is about 12 oz. I am looking at going to a raw diet. It seems to be a general rule of about 2% body wieght to feed raw. 4 cups of dry food is 12 oz that is 1% of the body wieght for a 75# dog.

So is it correct to say that you can feed 1/2 as much dry dog food compared to a raw diet?

4 cups is the recommended amount for the wieght. I have tried increasing but loose stool becomes a problem.

You have to allow the moisture factor when giving real food.Do NOT compare the two as they are different .If your dog is 75lbs ,then you would give about 1.5 to 2.25lbs.Basically 2 or 3 percent of 75lbs.Depending on fat, protein etc in the diet you may have to adjust it if the dog either loses or gains weight.I do not feed raw right now but hopefully this helps.

I agree, the two are not comparable.  The 2-3% is the right place to start, but don't get too hung up on it.  I would say that the majority of my dogs maintain well on that amount, but some need more and some need less.  Just keep an eye on the weight and adjust 1/4 of a lb at a time if necessary.  Good luck!

Here is a chart that may be helpful. As with any foods, you need to watch the dogs weight and adjust as needed but its a good start.

Good luck with feeding raw, its not as difficult as some would think and the results are great.

GSD24

If you are asking me then it depends on the size of the Cup you use

Just weigh out the amount you want to feed the Dog on the kitchen Scales then empty it into a cup you use then you will know how many cups a day to feed the Dog plus you know the weight of the food given it

I use Orijen Kibble

Just for interest  mine comes out to two Cups so one cup for  his breakfast then one in the evening

the breakfast food has Salmon oil on it and a Vit E capsule the evening feed is just the kibble

Yes Steve1 I was asking you.

When I said cup I was refering to a 8 oz cup. Is that not what most dog food use as a way of measuring. I have not seen dog foods that measure in lbs.
