My female is pregnant and is in her 63rd day today from her first breeding. I had an x-ray done last week because I like to know how many pups are there and we saw only one pup, This female had 8 last time and they arrived on day 62 from the first breeding. As I said before my female is at day 63 today and wants to play and acts like she is nowhere near ready to having pups. The pup did not look oversized in the xray or my vet would have told me so, I have never just had 1 pup in a litter so I wondered if one pup litters are done by c-section? any advice would be welcome.

Litter size can vary from one litter to the next. I've had dogs have one or two pups one time, then 10 the next time. All depends on how many eggs were dropped and whether she was fully ready to breed, or the stud could have been overused or just not producing good viable sperm at that present time. So don't worry about that, and I'd say she should be able to free whelp the singleton pup just fine since it doesnt' appear to be overly large. Nature will take it's course and she will go into labor when it's time, just keep a close eye on her! Good luck!

Yes, If this breeding/pup is important to you, C section it out of there tomorrow 7am at the vet. If she goes in whelp tonight, get ready to go to the emergency vet as one pup litter pups rarely survive. They seem to need each other to get 'going' and I will never take that chance again. you had that xray done last week and it didn't look oversized, that was last week.
changes are that she didn't conceive the day of the breeding but a few days later, (ovulation x semen staying alive as long as 6 days) but the pup is still ready to come out safely now. It seems you kind of missed the right time to breed her.

This is just what I have been told through the years.
a female carrying just 1 puppy may not have the hormones needed to induce labor. then again I have had 1 or 2 puppy litters born with no issue's.
How many days was she bred? or was this a one time breeding? If you bred her over several days, she may not have concieved with the first breeding. also sperm can survive like 72 hours in a female, if she dropped her eggs a day or so after breeding, then you may have anothr day or up to 3 to wait

She was bred twice and the progesterone test said she was ready. I'm not sure what happened but I don't want to take a chance. We will watch her tonight and then get Vets recomendation in morning. Thanks.

I had a female go 69 days from her last date of cover and deliver 1 healthy pup.
Give her time, when it is ready it will happen. Of course if she gets distressed please seek a Vet.

I have had one pup litters naturally.. but I am always prepared to do c section when there is a singleton.. I have had many females NOT go into labor with a singleton.. I think a trip to the vet tomorrow is a good idea..

If I am concerned about a litter or I know there is only one puppy I get a prog test done it will tell you if the female should have gone into labour and then you can decide with your vet whether you have a c section or not. It is a judgement call to wait or not without taking charge as you may end up with dead puppies.
