Thought I'd start a thread getting back to why most of us come to this site in the first place.

I am sure alot of the newbies would like to know the experience level of the members (giving advice) on this site.

Any Professional dog trainers? Any Veterinarians (with a degree)? Any Canine Behaviorists (with a degree)? Any Professional Dog Breeders?

Have to say, I am curious myself.

I am in the US and new to this, mostly because I don't have the time. But I thought it would be important to hear and see what other GSD breed fanciers/breeders/trainers might have to say. I am not into trashing people's reputations or making crude, nasty remarks. I enjoy anything new and interesting and intelligent, even if it is different from what I have experienced. I applaud anyone who sticks to the topic instead of making rude and degrading remarks in response to different opinions or comments by people who could use education and not abuse. I would rather not respond at all than to add to a thread of escalating nastiness. Let's have more professionality! I know we can do better! We owe it to the breed if not anything else.

Jasmine,

I am just a country boy animal lover who's getting a little grey around the edge's.

How bout you?    I read a few of your post's but I'd like you to tell us about yourself just a little.

Brent.

I personally am just a GSD freak.  Love all dogs, but German Shepherds are my true passion.  I have just one that I'm training  ...  with help along the way.   I check the database from time to time,  read the informative posts, try to avoid the childish posts, and sometimes I just plain go away for awhile when things appear to be out of hand and personal and a waste of my time to sift thru the nastiness.

I think most of the posters are passionate about their dogs...   and even the nasty posts don't really reflect the true character of the person.  At least I hope that's true...   :-)

Kinolog, I may be misinterpeting your response... sure hope you did not assume that I was fishing for conflict with this thread. I find it interesting that for a GSD site, there have not been to many threads regarding this awesome breed....sure, I have seen disagreements (folks are intitled) on opinions but, most of the threads seem way of topic (GSD) geared only to bash. My intentions, for starting this thread, was to find out if the pro's have left the site do to ugliness....I am just a  peaceful (generally) creature asking a few non- confrontational (if interpeted correctly) questions.

Two Moons,  I enjoy moonlight walks on the beach, candle-light dinners, soft jazz by the fireplace...LOL, just kidding.

Just a simple Texas gal (sorry, city slicker) also graying around the edges.  Love my life (full of joy), love my dogs, love my family and friends. I've had (for 18 years) the best job on the planet...dog trainer and family dog behavior counselor.  I meet the most awesome dogs, and their humans, everyday...I just can't top that.

Jasmine, so many of the old timers have talked newbie subjects to death already. Try a search on any old topic and you'll see. Quite a font of information out there, really! Have fun while you make your journey through the PDB message board landmines. If you make it out alive with all your limbs still attached, we'll send you a complimentary bag of Canidae dry dog food and a brochure on how to start RAW.

Best wishes, l love my GSD, too.

Jasmine,

When I say that name in my head I say Yasmeen...Don't ask me why,  I'm just strange sometime's..:)

I know what your asking in your original post, there are professional people here who have lot's of knowledge, just have to ask the right question.   Even then you should not take anything as gospel.. use good common sense.   It's the same with anything you look up online, check the fact's alway's.

That being said , moonlite and jazz sound's great.    You weren't kidding I can tell....LOL

I hope you enjoy the database it's very useful,  and the message board is only what you make of it.   Don't let anything suprise you.   Wear protection at all time's.  Take no prisoner's.

Brent.

I started cruising the site to go over pedigrees and see pictures of nice doggies.  I'd like to get a boykin pupper next year sometime, and unless I familiarize myself with the current lines and what they produce I won't know what to look for in pedigrees next year.  Course once here I was hooked... and I started checking out the message board because I ran out of new adds in the US for puppies.

I worked for 25 years as a Vet Tech in a mixed practice. Taught Obedience with the town Dog Warden sort of as a self defense thing... we figured the more well mannered dogs the less idiots we'd have to deal with in our jobs.  I also raised, trained and showed White German Shepherds from the mid 70's til the late 80's.

Mostly I'm hooked on Shepherds, and proud of it... color doesn't matter to me, though I've a strongest attraction for Dark Sable's.  Like working lines for their intellegance but due to physical disabilities am not sure I can deal with a really drivey dog... so am trying to find that perfect blend... *sigh* and trying to decide if on a disability check I can really afford a good puppy. *crossing fingers*
