What has been the oldest GSD that you've owned...Most of mine have passed away between 10 and 12 years old...but I had one female that was 14 1/2 years old when she finally passed away...What a tough bitch she was...

My oldest was 14 years and 2 months old, but I have got to say, I wish he looked as good as Isis does at the same age. She definetely does not look 14 in the pictures of her running and playing with her birthday present at the park! In the past my GSDs have lived anywhere from 10 to 12 years.

My oldest passed away on her own decision, at just about exactly 14 years old. Within a few days of her birthday. The others that have passed have been due to hemangio and rear-end paralysis (due to old back injury) - at 11 and 12 years old. Sure wish they lived a lot longer. Each loss is a real heartbreaker.

Thanks sueincc, Isis really dose look great for being 14 not just in body but also in mind. She also has excellent hearing and sight It must of come from her mom Era vom Papst died at 13 3/4 yrs and her dad Wicko von Karthago that died at 13yr.

Q Man love your avatar :-)
I have lost my first GSD just before he turned 10 but that is b/c he blew a disc in the back of his neck some how. My other I lost at 8 yrs due to the vet, won't go any further than that. My oldest I have right now is my Cierra and she will be 11 in November. She has gone through breast cancer and now she has bad kidney's that requires very expensive prescription food, as well as severe arthritis in her elbow. All in all she is doing very good for her age, playing like a puppy and rolling around on her back.

My oldest is still with me and she is 13 1/2. She is a Long Coat who I bought for $450 from nothing lines with no OFA because she was cute. She has competed and titled in Agility, Herding, & Obedience and although she was retired at about 8 yrs of age, she is still doing well with few problems.

BTW- Photo was from last Christmas. She is the most perfect, "Bomb Proof", compliant dog I have EVER owned no matter which lines my others are from. 150% safe with man, woman, child, dog, cat, sheep, etc. She is what I consider to be what Max wanted when he wanted the GSD to continue to be the most Versatile Dog available. I never did Schutzhund but I have no doubt she could have learned the game if I had asked. She would bark at strangers on command when I lived in a bad section of town and had to walk in the evening. She would answer the portable phone when asked and the clicker when I dropped it. I just have never meet such an easy to train dog in my life!
My second oldest is also still with me at 12 years old. I got him free after raising him for Guide Work but he was too dog aggressive. Certainly not my "once in a lifetime dog" but probably the best snuggle bunny I could ask for.

He now is battling DM but going strong.
