The other day, I came across an ad that had 1 1/2 year old female white GSD. She was bred to a black/tan male. The owner is selling her bred due to moving out of state for her husband's new job. I am just curious about what the White female would be consider. I have read that AKC will not allow whites in the show ring, but UKC will. Whites are German Shepherd just with a different color coat, but some say they are Swiss Shepherds. I am curious as to why the Whites are being picked on, when Pandas, livers and blues seem not to be. I am just really wondering why Whites are being singled out?
I am not looking for any other dogs, as of right now, but I was earlier this week and came across this ad. Since, I have done a little research, but really could not find my answer. I am not looking for any bashing on colors though.
Thanks

Hi Wildmoor,
Right now, I cannot get another dog due to my Uncle having cancer again. I was just really wondering why Whites are singled out is all. I was looking at sables and blacks, and came across the ad.
Thanks though,

In the original Standard only the Alt Deutsche races from the North and Eastern regions, were allowed to be white .

I see. They are German Shepherds though, just white, correct?

In Germany they are known as Berger Blanc Suisse or Weisser Schweizer Schäferhund, they have their own standard translated from French , but originaly Switzerland.
CLASSIFICATION F.C.I. :
Group 1 Sheepdogs and Cattle Dogs (except Swiss Cattle Dogs).
Section 1 Sheepdogs.
Without working trial.
registered as a new breed in 1991, from Canadian and US imports that bred true for several generations. Their height to length ratio is different to ours 12 : 10.
Coat is medium in length must be double coated, long coat is acceptable providing it is double coated, all nails, nose, lips etc must be black. Colour white, cream, fawn , yellow tingingetc a fault. In Germany they are registered with the Shaferhund- Union, link for the Rassezuchtverein fur Weisse Schweizer Schaferhund e. V.
http://www.rws-ev.info/index.php?site=landesgruppen
they hold their own Seiger shows etc and have a similiar set up to the SV.
This is the link for the World Federation for FCI recognised Berger Blanc Suisse organisations.

ones bred from colours, or that have colours in them , or what a lot of pet breeders get with the brown noses etc. are not classified as these, hope that helps.

I think the lady said something about being from a white and black/tan parents. So my next question would be, if a white AKC female is bred to a black/tan AKC male, then would the pups be GSD? Just with faults due to color.

Yes Rocky they would, do the AKC recognise white?
by RockyMud on 30 August 2008 - 23:08
They accept white for registering, but will not let the dogs be in the show ring. Hopefully I read that right on the AKC page. Thanks so much! You have been great help!

You're correct AKC registers the White Shepherds as German Shepherds but it is a disqualifying fault for the conformation ring. They can, however, compete in all the AKC performance events. The UKC will recognize them as White Shepherds or German Shepherds. I have friends that have White Shepherds and they have them registered with AKC as German Shepherds and UKC as White Shepherds. They show them in AKC performance events and in UKC conformation events.
Several of their dogs are from other colours of German Shepherds.
