I know this has probably been asked many times on here but here it goes anyway. Is Ursus von Batu still alive?? If so where is he? Is there a website of the owner? Just looking for more info on him. Help me if you can. THANX!

I cannot verify that the Ursus is still alive, but to my knowledge he is not deceased. If he were to die there woud be a tremendous amount of press about the matter. That said, he is very old for a GSD as he was born in either late 1995 or very early 1996. Regardless, the success of the Ursus lives on in his most famous son the 2 x VA-1 Yasko von Farbenspiel, as well as the many living Ursus sons and daughters.
The existence of the Zwinger Batu spanned two (2) human generations but after a decision last year by its owner it no longer exists. There are very few notable dogs whose lifetime numbers of litters sired and puppies produced matches that of the Ursus, and a few have produced more. But, without doubt Herr Erich Orschler gave the world a dog who stands out is perhaps the most successful producer of all German show-line type GSD's for the years to come.
Best Regards,

Hi
Thanks for the information as well. I have a great granddaughter who turned four yesterday. She is a great dog with lots of drive and focus. I love her.

My Ursus son is like winning the lottery. Still going strong, full of clownishness, surprises, sensitivity, earnestness, gentleness. A one in a million dog. I attribute my life to him today. In any event, he is an enrichment to this world and those that know him.
He is now 5 years old and fit front and back, still working when his Mom sets the alarm so she gets to training and always astounding in his beauty and presence. A dog that always thinks.

Like Maren (sunshine), I also have a direct Ursus son. The more she and I talk, the more our boys sound as if they could be littermates.
There is something unique about what Ursus produced in those resembling him in genotype, phenotype, and personality: always thinking and problem solving, having great resiliency, creating a challenge in training and a handler who must communicate with his dog's intellect and ready wit or sense of humor--something almost magical and an indefinable blessing to those whose lives have been touched by them.

These guys can't be trained to perform as robots. Their place within their pack order must be clearly established along with their respect for their human "shepherd". It is dogs such as these who possess the qualities of being able to work independently and make split second decisions as herding dogs.
