We all know what constitutes the condition we call "easty-westy" regarding the front leg and paw geometry conformation of a GSD. Few dogs are truely perfect and of course a wee bit of misalignment is allowed. The important things concerning the front leg is the health of the elbow joint, the vertical alignment of the upper leg, the proper angulation of the front hock, and finally the presentation of the foot to the ground.
I was at a motorbike rally today and saw the most deformed poor GSD that I have ever seen, i.e., I did not know this was possible. The poor animal's legs began to turn outward at the shoulder, increased through the elbow, and at the termination of the front paws pointed very nearly ninety degrees from the body's centreline.
I do not know how old this male is, and did not know he was a male until I heard him called and could barely see his "equipment". I would say that he was neutered at an early age because he had a "bitch" frame and skull. But even premature neutering should not have caused the severe easty-westy condition. I was amazed that he could walk at all, but he is a dog and as far as he knows all is well, and his owners did seem to love him-that's very important.
I was just shocked by what I saw; hence my post on the subject.

I wonder how much of that is genetic and how much is a result of an early neuter.
Very sad.

Thats really weird. My brother has a 3/4 GSD, 1/4 English Bull. My brother's dog is built just like the dog you describe. The weird thing is, I received a call from my bro tonight. He was all upset, because he went to some bike rally today, and some guy there was making remarks about his poor dog. Just quite a coincidence is all. My bro lives all the way down south in Tennessee.

I had a Jano Holzhiemer (sp?) son who was just as bad. both parents titled imports who had good show careers. this poor dog looked like his legs had been broke and reset wrong. I placed him as a pet. he was sold to me as a stud/show dog.

Yellowrose, You have seen some of my Tug O' War vids on the DB. The pic in my Avatar is of me doing a little Tug work ,with a Big Channel Catfish, over at Lake Meredith, at Sugar City, Colorado. We spent a lot of time there, water skiing, and fishing.
Now that I moved to Texas, I am near another Lake Meredith.

Abhay, that is indeed a coincidence. This particular rally was in "barely Tennessee" as it was in Adams (land of the notorious Bell Witch) just five (5) minutes south of the Kentucky-Tennessee state line. I first saw the dog when he was lying in the shade of an RV awning just across from some people I was visiting. I was in the area cordoned off for the bike show when I saw him walking with his owners from the rodeo area. I don't recall anyone making remarks about this particular dog, but of course I was moving through the crowd saying "hello" to the people there who I know.
