So its been a few days (tues. will be a week) that kaizer has been 4 months old and im starting to worry because he hasnt lost his k-9 teeth yet and his ears arent fully erect (ummm i guess i could try viagra? lol)

Seriously though from what ive read is that all his teeth should be out and his ears should be up by now. The breeder said because he has a lot of bone it might take him a little longer. The vet says that because he had a bout with worms when i first brought him home he might be a little behind.

The breeder told me to crush up a vitamin c tablet and get some gelatin and pull the pill apart so the powders goes in his food and just do that once a day and it could speed up his ears going up. ive been doing that for about a week now and nothing has happend.

Does anyone have any input on what is going on as to why kaizers teeth arent all gone and his ears arent up!!

TIA

At 4 months he's just started his serious teething.  You probably won't see canines for another couple of months.  Maybe sooner.  Some dogs' ears go up and down during the teething.  Never had the ears issue at 4 months so I can't speak to that.  Give him some big knuckle bones to chew on (supervised) to help strengthen the muscles and help with the teething or safe chew toys.  Nothing to worry about as far as the teething.  He sounds like he's on track for that.

Give him coral calicum that will bring his ears up right away.  Don't worry about the teeth I have a 4 month old female GSD pup and the vet told me she is teething.   Really just let things happen and have fun with your pup at this age they are a blast.

teeth , dont worry

and as for the ears they will probably come up but dont worry about it

is kaiser the west German puppy working line?

i think i remember him from a previous thread:)

dont bother giving silly supplements just let him develop in his own way

tapeing may be an option but i wouldn't bother. leerburg have instructions on this

give him a nice bone to gnaw on that may help with both problems

good luck

larrydee im not too keen on giving him calcium as too much can be no good they breeder suggested gelatin because i guess that makes his body develop more calcium and whatever he doesnt need to will just pee out.

And yes tiger he is the west german working line i posted about a few threads ago.

I just got confused on the whole thing because i was seeing that if your pups ears arent up by 4 months you should start posting etc. i want to try NOT to post so at least this puts me at ease with everything you guys are saying.

I checked out the pictures of Kaiser in your previous thread. Nice looking pup!

My girl Bella will be 4 months old in just a few days and her ears are all over the place and she has just started teething. Had her at the vet this morning and she weighed 35 lbs. I wouldn't worry, sounds like your boy is normal :)

I would not worry so much about teeth. Mine still had all his  baby teeth up until after he was 5 months old. Then they all seemed to drop out within a week. There was a point at which his incisor looked like it was growing out sideways while the baby incisor was still in place. When you see it, you will understand why teething can be painful. Do however keep an eye on his bottom canines, if the baby canines are retained it could interfere with the bite and the new canines can grow into the roof of the mouth.

Ears too, these typically can go up and down and occasionally don't stay erect until after teething (can be upto 6 months). If they are not up by 5 1/2 months you might consider taping. If your breeder is well established and has raised pups from his lines, he would have a good idea of what's normal for your pup.

Good luck!

Puppies start losing their teeth about 4 months so don't worry about that.  As far as ears, teething can inhibit the ears from going up so I wouldn't worry too much about it until puppy has lost their teeth.  If the ears are to the side, haven't ever tried to perk up or you notice that the middle part of the ear is creased, you may want to tape.  The ears likely aren't strong enough on their own to go up.

I've dealt with a lot of puppy ears over the last 2+ years; some go up on their own, others need help.  You don't want to be one of those people whose dog's ear could have gone up, but didn't  put them up early enough.  I've also tried several things to help ears go up.  Haven't had all that much luck with the gelatin or calcium.  Foam rollers and surgical glue has worked.  Also ear templates and Tear Mender glue.  Sometimes ear just need to be trained to be in the up position.

You still have a few months before I'd start to worry so just make sure your puppy has lots of good things to chew on (i.e. marrow bones are always a hit and good for ear development).

Just feed a healthy diet and stop worrying so much.   Find natural way's to suppliment stay away from miracle cure's and pill's or powder's.   Let nature take it's course,  I never consider glueing ear's to brace's.

Be patient.
