Snowman1...did you attempt to negotiate with them concerning keeping the pup?  I personally think it is emotional blackmail to ask for the return of your family member to make good on a refund, and I don't do that.  What was their reasoning on asking for the return of the dog to make good on their refund?  Many GSD breeders do not ask for the return of the pup, but do ask for proof of the genetic defect, sometimes asking for an exam by their own vet or one that is you do not do business with, and proof of spay or neuter to before issuing a refund.  Veronica

I sent email pic of hips to breeder, originals to OFA just to get it on record.  Some days I think, OK at least they are making an effort to fix this, other days I just feel screwed.  They wanted my dog back so they could resell him I guess.  If I give him back they will give me a new pup of equal value....   so I get another pup with bad hips from a non-OFA dog??? right.  I wouldn't give him up for any dog, I've had him for over a year now!  In all fairness, that is what the contract says. They offered $1250 off my next $5000 dog I buy from them  (1/2 purchase price I paid originally), but who's got an extra $4k sitting in the drawer?  And no, it wasn't M Kolbe.  Not sure exactly how I feel about this, other than getting shafted, so I dont want to slam the kennel on here.  And Ransom is not the name of the kennel, just the name of the dam that doesnt belong to the kennel...follow me?

You would think that with the miracle of internet today, it wouldn't be so damn difficult to find an honest, reputable, stand-up breeder who won't sell you crap or try to screw you for a buck.

Sunshine, YES, it took a year and a couple of months to get all the paperwork straightened out with the SV, going through USA. Ya know, there are situations that are out of the norm. I actually had ownership of the female SUBMITTED all the paperwork, before she was sent for breeding. Sadly, that breeding didn't take. I was NOT going to miss another heat as she was aging and I wanted  to keep pups back from her. So, Yes, I took a chance, BUT the fact remains that there are times the tie up with paperwork is NOT the fault of the breeder, but stuck somewhere in an office. I will say that both USA and the SV were helpful, apologetic, and kept in contact with me the whole time.

Another example would be my young female whose paperwork registration through USA took over a year! I had to work off of a registration pending letter for her BH, conformation shows, and her SchH1.

I have also helped other folks who have had situations worse than mine! So, as much as we all think it is easy, should be easy, sometimes it isn't and sometimes it is NOT the breeder's fault.

Hi All! Nope not a single email or phone call from B. Coats, she received her money why should she care if I get the papers for my boy or not. My husband has started looking into small claims court to try and get my money back and he's also looking into filing crimal charges. I honestly believe she's committed fraud to the amount of $2625 (including shipping) which I believe is a felony. I hope we can get something done, either the papers or my money back. I don't want to stick my head in the sand and let her get away with this, that's what she's counting on, from the PM's I've gotten she's done this before and gotten away with it.
