Is a V rated, KKl1, SchH3 german shepherd sufficient for breeding (producing working dogs)? Or there are other qualities and traits that should be considered in selecting a stud?
Thanks,

well, a good trainer can put those titles on a poor dog. and he may not produce working drives even though he made a SCH3. look at parents, siblings and offspring. go for a good family that has already produced what you are looking for. titles do not mean a good dog.

There is SOOOO much more to it than that.
Number one you need to evaluate your female and decide what she needs to improve on. That can be physical faults as well as character flaws such as low drive or bad nerves etc. From that you look for a male that will fulfill her needs best. In the search for the right male you must compare bloodlines and research them for health, hips working abilities etc. Then I would advise that you go and meet several males and watch them work as well as interact with them on a social level. Pictures do not always tell the same story as what is real. I hear that all the time from people that come to meet my dogs, they always say they looked good in the pictures but in person they are just so much more impressed. I'm sure the opposite can be true also. Also ask to see the stud contract up front that way you can weed through all of what the stud owner wants and is willing to give.
So take your time and do the research intensely. You won't be sorry!!

I agree with you on that a good trainer can put SchH titles on a poor dog. What about the V and KKL1 ratings? According to the standards, a judge grant these ratings only if the dog passes the confirmation, confidence, and temperment evaluation.

Not trying to start something here because I agree with most of what you say. I do disagree with your first and second sentences. I wouldn't breed a female with low drives and bad nerves. I think that is one of the many reasons our breed is on the decline.
I don't think that is how the breed is improved upon, but watered down. It's kinda like a bald guy buying a porsche. Sure you may get a few looks from the ladies, but you're still bald.
