Blitz's DNA test shows him to be heterozygous A/N with one normal copy and one mutated copy of the gene associated with DM susceptibility. This means he might produce DM if he were bred, but will most likely never develop it. He has been issued what appears to be the first OFA DM cert number - GS-DM1/79M-NOPI-CAR. I assume this will be on the OFA website. He will be listed as a carrier.
The guidelines for breeding state the following about A/N dogs - "Owners with dog testing as Carriers (A/N) or At-Risk, (A/A) are strongly encouraged to share these results with their attending vet and seek counseling when making breeding decisions." We recommned that breeders take into consideration the DM test results as they plan their breeding programs; however they should not over-emphasize the test results. Instead, the test results should be one factor among many in a balance breeding program"
I will be posting his pedigree on the Breed Betterment list when I get back home on Monday. I will probably have the Flash test done too in the near future to use as a comparison.
