Just received this from a friend on TN:
Breed specific legislation is BACK on the agenda in Rockwood, Tennessee. This time, however, it is not only bull breeds that are being targeted. Please take note that owners of the following breeds will be restricted under the proposed amendments to Rockwood's current ordinance:
(1) Bull Terrier;
(2) Staffordshire Bull Terrier;
(3) American Pit Bull Terrier;
(4) American Staffordshire Terrier;
(5) Chow Chow;
(6) Doberman Pinscher;
(7) Rottweiler;
(8) German Shepherd;
(9) and ANY other breed commonly known as one of the above breeds or any combination of the above breeds
The proposed amendments are on the agenda for the city council meeting on *Monday, August 18, 2008*. It is my understanding that this will be considered the first reading, with the final reading at the September council meeting. It is also my understanding that there are enough "yes" votes to pass this on Monday night.
I cannot stress how *VERY IMPORTANT* for people to attend the city council meeting on Monday. We MUST have Rockwood citizens in attendance. The fact that city residents have not taken an interest on this issue has NOT gone unnoticed by the city council.
In addition, the city council seems to feel that because they have gone from "banning" to "restricting" certain breeds, that they have submitted to the pleas of concerned dog owners. *They have not*. Regardless of this language change, it is still BSL.... *_and_* the city has now added even more breeds to their proposed restricted list.

Rockwood's current ordinance clearly identifies a “dangerous dog,” and there is no need to add the breed specific language contained in the proposed amendments. Adding the breed specific language is not going to create a safer community and, in fact, the language of the ordinance as proposed can actually harm the community by giving the residents a false sense of security. As we all know, “dangerous dogs” come in all shapes, sizes and BREEDS. However, this ordinance implies otherwise. This ordinance deems pit bulls, chows, dobermans, rottweilers and German Shephards are dangerous /per se, /while giving other breeds of dogs the opportunity to be deemed dangerous based on their specific behavior. Owners of the above listed dogs would automatically be regulated by this ordinance, while owners of other dogs would *_only_* be regulated if their dog were deemed dangerous by their individual behavior.
Please send your polite and respectful letters opposing breed specific language to the Rockwood city officials listed below. In addition, PLEASE try to attend the meeting in Rockwood on Monday night if at all possible. Please remember...we are the only voices our dogs have.

How many of you live in Rockwood, Tn. ?
Marjorie,
Do you live in this city? Cities all across america are passing zoning ordinance's and amenment's everyday.
I give you smoking ban's, alcohol ban's, noise ordinance's, ban's on adult oriented business's.
It's a local matter and only city resident's have a say in them.
And I'm pretty sure everyone here know's this is taking place daily.
And I have those website's from all your post's burned into my brain.
Your effort's should be aimed at the citizen's of Rockwood, Tn. Why don't you advertise in the local paper there?
The sky is falling.

You know the problimb here is.If we keep leting them take are rights away. We will never win and it will be hard to recover once gone.Pistols have been looked down on and given a waiting time before purchase .Well since the gun laws are so strict on travel and home protection people have turned to there dogs.Know they want to ban our dogs.The real reasons we are losing dog rights are ignorent people who just buy dogs and really have no care if they run lose and bite or breed the neighbor hood.Since people dont want to be responsable know you have a drain on the economy. Doctor bills for dog bites and bills to house all the dogs being breed go figure.Pretty soon you wont be able to own a dog with out a waiting period.Go figure.Just some thing else were they can tax and ask for special permits for owning a certin breed. Dont worry if you have big enough pockets you can own eny thing you want aint that the American way.The real sad thing here is we are in need of some of those dogs for our milllitarys and police officers . They play important roles in the comunity. Is this to say all are bad. I guess we need to just keep our doors unlocked .

Joe t,
When they start up this stuff here in my area of course I will do everything I can to fight it. I don't live in a city and I don't live in Rockwood.
The Supreme Court say's we as individual's have the right to own firearm's, just jump through the right hoop's.
I don't want to begin another political debate but your right thing's are going to hell.

Choose wisely where you live? Brent, for pete's sake, wake up from your coma and take a good look at what is happening in the dog world today. It's not happening in my back yard, so why should I care. You should and had better start to care. Some here have trouble even getting homeowners insurance because they own a GSD and Sch clubs get turned down every day. What would it take to get you to care? If you don't want to get involved, lack of time ,desire, whatever, don't but why would you even make such a statement on a GSD board regarding the future and welfare of the breed we are supposed to be protecting? Look, Brent, I'm not picking on you and I think you are a decent person and a nice guy, but you just don't seem to get it much of the time and this is one of those times.
BTW, Brent, a good friend of mine manages a vet clinic in Indianapolis and she tells me that BLS is currently under discussion in that city, If it happens there, it will have a sweeping effect even on rural areas and the rest of the state will follow. When that happens, I suspect you will be one of the first to be asking for help from other dog owners. I sure hope that the majority of dog owners, any breed, aren't thinking the way you are. First they took away our books................

joet, when one of the legislators who proposed the pending laws in CA requiring the neutering of most dogs over 4 months of age was asked - where then would people buy their pets- his answer was, we can import them from Asia and Mexico.

Well i hate california eny ways.There big truck haters there.I drive a truck been all over california and really dont care if i go back.They wont even allow you to smoke when your in your own vehicale and setting on the scales.I guesss they think there officers might get second hand smoke setting on there duff in there little scale house.Make all trucks run 55. If we ever banned together and put a stop to it. I would say california would be the first state they hit .Pretty soon you wont be able to ride with your pets.You will need a seat belt for them and they wont be able to eat doggie bisquits in a moving vehicle .You know the crumbs might enter fear with there vision or something.I turned on a little road there in california there was a litlle sighn that said no trucks.I really did not see it .I went down the road to get to my drop point .I was pulled over and stuck out of service.The only thing there was .A bar and rafting place.Funny how the officer had the number to the company who had a little truck to come in and hall the trailer in the rest of the way.They said i was to long for the Road. It was a money scam.But it costed me a days worth of work. Had to spend the night.I did go rafting thoe and checked out the bar after. Like a mini vacation.My dispatcher at the time said me and my partner have way to much fun on the truck.She wonderd how we ever got eny thing done.L.O.L.
