I picked up my new pup today from DFW.  It was kind of a hassel trying to get him, but im sure i was just really anxious about getting him.  I've been trying to take some pictures of him, but he doesnt seem to stay still.  He did let me take one decent picture though, and i've uploaded it and his pedigree.

Here he is: www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/561432.html

I also picked up innova red meat food, but was wondering if that was a good food to keep him on.  My other dogs get Fromm gold, but i heard it was a grain heavy food.  What do you guys feed?

He looks like a  fiesty pup!  I hope you'll give updates.

I feed grain free.  Innova EVO and Natural Balance Venison and Potato.

Most folks that I know, feel that most grain free kibbles have too much calcium and phosphorus for a large breed puppy.  (Except for Orijen Large Breed Puppy which, altho grain free, has cal/phos levels quite a bit lower than the "regular" grain free kibbles.

Thanks guys.  Yes, i will put in regular updates as much as i can.  Right now he loves to chase whatever moves, and whine a whole lot when he's in his crate.  But he does stop after a minute or two.  Not nearly as bad as the pups i've had before.  Man, is he a play biter.  I had him out last night playing with him, and he snuck up behind me and nailed me right in the love handle.   His first time out on the training field will be this thursday.  I'm planning on just letting him go out and smell the field and not work with him.  We'll see how things go...

I guess im just gunna keep him on Fromm large breed gold.  Unless you guys have any other suggestions.

What is Fromm large breed?  Never heard of it, if you are going to feed a kibble, I have and so have many others, had excellent results with Royal Canin, I love it for a kibble.  The Innova Evo is good too, but maybe too much protein for a young pup.  The RC large breed puppy is a good food to feed for a couple of months.  Good luck he's cute!

Fromm is an all natural food.  They use human grade meat in the production of thier kibble, with probiotics to help with digestion.  It also contains no wheat or corn.  I liked what i saw and read, but the real kicker was when i switched my dogs to fromm from Euk.  On Euk, they used to get the runs out of no where all the time.  I can honestly say they havent had the runs in the 9 months they've been on fromm.  Thier coats look great too.  I just recently heard that it was pretty grain heavy so was looking into some other foods for my pup.

Thanks for the advice Karim, maybe i'll try the RC, do they make a GSD puppy formula?

They don't have an actual GSD puppy formula, they have large breed puppy and they have baby.  I have used both on all of the puppies that I have raised here at the house starting with the baby puppy for about a month or so, then moved up to the large breed puppy for about a month and by time the pup is 4 months old I switched them over to the RC GSD adult even though the bad says not to use until they are18 months old!  You see the  pups getting too fat on the puppy food, but still hungry if you cut it down.

I have been very happy with the stool in every dog that I have used RC with, firm and very easy clean up.  Small poops as well which is important for me to see that the food is being used instead of pooped out!

Hey Mark,

Good to see that your pup arrived! Darryl's boy's flight was delayed last week due to a strike at the airport in Brussels so we had to wait a whole extra day which seemed like an eternity!!  Here he is in all his glory... a little pale for a GSD, don't ya think??

Looking forward to seeing your new pup! Yall all need to come down for training soon! :)
