I have to be very honest here. I feel that the dogs in my country are rubbish. Why i say this is because.

1) Dogs, especially GSD do not fetch a good price so breeders would not invest in quality males or females. This means imports. Average price of a supposely show line GSD would be about USD 140 with papers. If pet, start USD 45 but not more that USD 110.

2) Cost of imports are high, peoples salaries are low and cost of living is high but we still do have some animal lovers. This means that people will not invest and spend that much money on a GSD.

3) People do not have knowledge in what to look for. The craze still is for the over sized long fur GSD which they call lion GSD. If you were to meet every single person who bred GSD for 1 year you wil see that they do not know what they are doing.

4) Most people find it difficult to maintain dogs the way that developed countries do because we do not have the resources like access to good dry food and supplements.

5) Very difficult to change peoples paradigm about dogs. There are so many stray dogs on the road.

6) People lack knowledge in training and showing dogs and exercising them accordingly.

7) GSD is the lowest 3 in price but still has a confused loyal following.

On the positive side. Since last year we have seen some good imports coming from nearby countries but these dogs are yet to be matured and assesed. Good bloodlines.

I am needing help to improve the breed standard here. I am wanting quality stud dogs as i see that a males can help a breed far more than females. I am willing to pay shipping. Any age is below 4.5 years is fine. Everything is limited here.

** FYI, cars have over 300% importy duty tax so you can imagine how expensive things are here.

As Chris said in your other thread- there are some good dogs in India. Could you not work with an Indian breeder for maybe a co-ownership or a lease? If your veterenarians have the technology,. could you not import frozen semen from good dogs? It seems ot me that you alone cannot do this. Do you have a club or a ggroup of people dedicated to making the time and financial investment to improve the quality of the GSD in your country?

Sri,

What you are dreaming of can only come to pass through years and years of work and learning.   You can buy great bloodline's and breed them but that's not going to improve the breed in your country.

You do need a group or club that can learn to show and compete, follow exsisting standard's and have evaluation's based on standard's.   The service's of vetrinarian's, trainer's, experienced breeder's, and lot's of money.  And time to evolve and grow .   You need to learn about health and nutrition, and you need the resource's.

Selective breeding take's a lot of research and more time, year's.    Your statement about male's helping the breed more than female's is wrong.   I don't have enough patience to explain this to you , all I can say is you have much to learn.

Learning take's years and years, your not going to accomplish anything over night.   You once said this was your hobby, that it was out of love for the breed.     You need to travel, meet breeder's,go to competition's, meet trainer's, what you need is experience and again more time.

I wish you well, I'm sorry if I fumble around trying to be helpful.   All thing's considered I don't know what to really tell you.

Just try to learn what you can.

Brent.

Hi ,

IT's all good and well that you want to improve the G S D's in your country ,  but as KCzaja and Two moons mentioned you need your club. All those who love G S D's and a mentor.

Please do not get me wrong , not all imports will  help to improve the quality in your country.

You must know the type of breeding and what the possible influence it will bring. From where do you want to start ?

Understand  the standard ,all aspects of it . Talk to visiting specialist /breed judges ,if possible get your kennel club to organise G S D seminars and workshops.

Participate in shows organised by your kennel club .There is nothing like a winner to create an interest in the breed.

Please be very careful when purchaseing any dog , there have beed enough people being conned.

There is some very good dogs in India , maybe you should check it out.

The "backbone" of a good kennel lies with it's FEMALES not it's MALES

If you really want to improve the breed do not look for help on social networking sites like this. You can look around and see the quality of discussions going on on this site and the kind of replies you will get.

There is no harm in looking outside your country for help, but the key is you first need to get a right mentor. Talking to too many people on a free for all forum will confuse you further.

Talk to few established kennels and breeders and see and understand their breeding programs. Theory plays a part in understanding and learning but at the end of the day it all about Intellectual masturbation.

The real people who are training dogs and breeding do not have the time to sit on their laptops and throw hot gas.

cheers

Also please don't look for pity by bringing out your sob story on a public forum. Try and maintain your self respect and your nation's. The people you are asking for help have bigger issues and problems in their own respective countries. Having a club is not the solution to the problem.

cheers

What's the harm in ask other's for their opinions?  It doesn't sound like he's asking to be "rescued" just for input - different perspectives. It's simple if you have some thoughts and want to share them post; if you don't move on to another thread.
