I have lived at my property for 18 yrs.I do not use insecticides on my dogs nor horses.I have had no problem with fleas nor ticks of any type.In 18 yrs..I have backed out two small ticks.Today I found a tick in Boss's ear.I used some vet wrap to muzzle him.I knew he would not stand for alcohol nor a matchstick. This had to be quick.I used forceps.I have very little nails. I have never in my lifetime seen a tick like this.If someone can give me a site that I can go to that covers worldwide ticks.I would really appreciate it..or anything close to it.Pictures are a must so that I can find out..what type of tick? Its wasn't a deer tick..brown tick..goat tick or fowl tick..bat tick.I am really concerned because their may be a new introduction of species that are travelling in acrosst the border with their host into this country.Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

How about posting a picture of the tick here, so we can help you identify it? (Usually I just take a tweezer and grab the tick as close as possible to the skin and give a small twist as I pull it out. I look for the head and usually gross myself out as i flush it down the toilet. )

Also, was it already engorged when you pulled it out?

Although this link addresses Wood Ticks, I think it is great advise on the removal of all ticks.  Also, if it were me, and I was not sure on the tick species, I would deposit the tick in a small bottle filled with alcohol and take it to my vet for identification, which is necessary to determine the course of treatment.  Depending on the disease, a tick can infect the host with the initial bite, which is also why you want to be careful not to squeeze a tick.

Trust me Sueincee..If I EVER see anything like this again.I won't get freaked out or panic and it will be placed in a glass container filled with alcohol.I understand that different ticks carry different diseases... If I had kept the specimen and given it to Dr.Dykes.I'm sure he would have sent it to Auburn University.Boss is doing good and is relieved. If their is a slight change in him...I will know it. The site where the "Bitch" was removed shows no redness peaking out. There is no swelling.

If you don't want to pull a tick out use a small bottle of three in one oil and put one drop right on the tick at the skin, it will let go in a few minute's.  It's harmless.

And save those two headed tick's in a bottle...:)

You are doing the right thing. It wasn't that long ago that a tick was no big deal, pull it off, have the heebeegeebees maybe, but that was pretty much it.  Not any more.  I found one on my dog a few months ago and felt just as you do, I had my dog tested and held my breath 'til  he came through unscathed.  Sometimes I am just so tired of all this crap, it's too much any more.  Let's all go jump in a swamp and call it a day.

LOL.. sue,

Just to much drama huh?

Hell I have so many tick's we started naming them.    I even got fed up with the frontline.    I pull em off with my finger's or tweezer's crush em or burn em and wash my hand's after.     if I'm gonna catch something or my dog's its just gonna happen, life in the wood's I guess, survival of the fitest sort of mentality.

I have just as much to worry about with the mosquitoes here.  Better I build up some anti body's to it all.

Brent.
