What is meant by "a dog having active aggression"?
Thanks,
Mike

Another name for fight drive. Its when you take the dog in defense. He is aggressive out of no stress but learns that the helper is the Fighting partnmer and noit just a motor behind the sleev prey. Its when the dog;s spirit truly comes out and he starts to FIGHT

Is there any warning signs that things are getting out of control that I should watch for?

Please explain. Remember dog science is very inexact. You have to explain whats exactly going on with the dog, with you., your environment etc.
Active aggression is something to die for in a Schutzhund prospect. This is when the dog learns that fighting is fun and he has to fight. If a normal dog without training no matter what top class breeding, encounters a situation that he is threatened he will run away after reaching his threshold drive levels.
what are you trying to say? You are afraid of aggression? Is the dog naturally aggressive? Is he handler aggressive. Or he is simply aggressive when given a correction? You have to elaborate in great detail of what you ARE doing with the dog. What has been DONE with the dog.
remember these all are very finer points of dog training. Defence is something which once ignited in the dog's mind never dies out. The dog gets a mutation in his consciousness so to speak. If we assume the dog has consciousness.

Well, thank you for your replies!
I'm about to buy a dog who is SchH1, kkl 1, described as having an active aggression. I will be checking this dog soon and I want to know if there are any signs that indicate troubles. My worries is to get bitten by the dog in the long run.
I guess, what I'm trying to say is, when is active aggression a good or a bad quality? And what signs reveal that?

Mikee
Read the link provided by Vikram. Maybe he hasn't read it himself or he disagrees with Helmut, but it is contradictory to what Vikram has told you.

Yesd Helmut Raiser calls Fight Drive an Oxymoron which I do not agree with.
thanks Don for bringing this up

No Vikram, you stated that another name for active agression is fight drive. I think you need to re-read the link you provided.

Mike,
I'm, as said before, a staunch believer in genetics. If the dog is bred right and trained in the right manner especially the biting part both in prey and defence, there is not a chance in Million that the dog will bite at the wrong time.
as a side I have personally seen very few dogs brought into TRUE Defence especially in US. Most of the protection is prey oriented.
again my opinion. You or others may not agree with me.
cheers
