I am curious about Marc and am hoping some of you know something about him or his progeny. Thanks!

My male's great grandpa is Marc. I haven't heard much about him, but what I have heard has all been good. My male is very nice, but of course, Marc is so far back, it may or may not have to do with him. My female also has Marc in her pedigree, and I plan on breeding these two in the future, so it will linebreed on him. I'm hoping the litter will turn out nice, and I hope to hear more about Marc as well.

Thanks, Emily. Please let us (especially me!) know when that breeding takes. I heard awhile back from Shelley Strohl (very knowledgeable) that she liked linebreeding on Marc - or so I seem to recall. Perhaps she will wade in on this?

I had a grand daughter of Marc and knew my dog's mother (daughter of Marc) really well. Both ver calm dogs yet loved to play if that makes any sense. They are great house dogs and great with children but have full grips and seem to be producing some larger dogs. Rixi vom Posthorn was the Marc daughter I knew and she was around 80 plus pounds and my female, grand daughter is aruondn 80 pounds. Faeghan, the grand daughter is about about to 13 years of and Rixi was over 13 when she past away so I like the longevity here.

Actually, I got my little female from Shelley Strohl. She was a slow (working) developer, but now that she's come out of her shell, she is intense on the field. It's great to hear so many good things about Marc. Both my dogs are very calm in the home, love to work in obedience and tracking, but completely different dogs when someone acts threatening.

I have had MANY Marc progeny over the years. 3 of the 4 working dogs I have at this moment go to Mark.
My old dog, the one I showed at all those USA and WDA Sieger shows, V Pallo vom Arolser Holz, SchH3, KK1, a1 was an own son of Marc. My hard-hitting little Portia is by Pallo (who passed away at 12) My stud dog, Carol http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/123658.html goes to Marc in the 4th generation through V Wunni Arolser Holz, Pallo's full sister. Ali, my 2 yr. old banger, goes to Marc through Carol in the 5th generation. When I breed Portia to Carol I will produce a a 5,3 linebreeding on Marc. My gsdrebel's Diva is linebred on Marc 5,4.
Marc was/is known for passing on great nerves, V conformation, sound structure, big gait/excellent movement , natual full, firm grips, easy trainability, and clear minds. His prepotency for those qualities, and his over all type are still very much evident in his progeny 5 generations down the line. Carol is almost the same dog Pallo was, and Pallo, whose mother Orpie Busecker Schloss was bred to Marc 8 times with very desireable success, was the image of Marc. It doesn't seem to matter what you cross on the line, whether Marc comes through the mother-line or the father-line: You generally get some version of Marc... although crosses on Greif Lahntal seem to have been particularly successful. When my bloodline gets too dillute of Marc's gene's I am happy to say I can infuse it again with the semen I have frozen from Pallo. :-D
I wish there were more pix of Marc. I don't know of any in existance of him gaiting. Here are pix of the males mentioned above, so you can compare them as the genes come down through the generations. To look at and know Diva, one could almost believe she is an own daughter of Marc. A quick check of the pix on this database of Marc's progeny will further support his pre-potence.

Both Pallo in his day, and now Carol ("T") have often been described as Teddy Bears because of their sweet dispositions and affectionate nature. They were/are an absolute JOY to live with. The good news is that hese particular teddy bears BITE. :-D

If you ask some Germans about Marc, they refer to him, almost "dismissively" as "normal." I was disappointed the first time I heard it, until I realized that what they meant was that he had a stable temperament, i.e. not a "maim and maul" handler-aggressive dog. I have only seen a few Marc progeny, but they all seemed to have many of the same attributes: stable temperaments, high SG-V structure, good to great grips, compact bodies (meaning medium size and noticeably not long backs, if that makes sense), very, very nice strong heads.
