cross posted from another board:
I have been reading about what has or has not been done about this disaster. Basically what I can glean from it is "nothing is being done". A lot of lip service but nothing of any value. Just enough to placate the public and we all know that we are stupid and gullible. One major very high end expensive overrated celebrity dog food company stated that "people want us to not buy ingredients from China but that is not possible". Hello, we have no soil and cannot grow things here in America??? We have to import from a country that has open sewers?? Maybe we can get some of those fine Jalepeno peppers with e-coli from Mexico. (By the way my tomatoes and peppers were delicious this year) They went further to state that it is the job of the individual pet owner to monitor the food (how can one do this when they keep changing the names of the ingredients, they do not call Melamine pool cleaner but gluten) yet they then tout "BUY MY PRODUCT", yeah right, I will rush right out and get some. My dogs love pool cleaner.
We are all up against the economy and trying to find ways to feed ourselves along with our animals. Its not easy for most of us and we have to be inventive and careful. Oh, I forget, us breeders make a lot of money with our litters.
One of my favorites is the new bags for dog food. I buy them so I can have the pictures. They are worth framing. Wolves romping through the wilderness with big blue eyes. Makes me happy. Who cares what's inside!!!
The bottom line is lots of talk, some legislation no action and none to come. Government at its finest. Our tax dollars at work. Once again the Sheeples are getting the shaft. Will we sit still for it..........probably as we have bigger fish to fry???????? After all, these are only dogs and cats, bunnies, pigs, chickens. When you run out of reading materials read some of the new shiny bags...and you will find the contents are BS

Yes.....
I do.....and I agree....it baffles me why we can get 1,000 replies on something meaningless such as who's a member of such and such club but things about quality food or breed specific legislation go unnoticed.......

I think the best way to get quality is to buy it, don't buy the crap. Your dollars tell the manufacturer who you like and who you don't. They do need to be held responsible for their claim's ans any problem's they cause. Then your talking law suit's.
Legislation is specific to a state or county and we only have say in our own state's or county's so it's not going to do as much good argueing the point here as it would be in your own city or town, maybe that's why it's not wdely discussed here.
I dunno.
I feel pretty helpless dealing with a large company or a government entity. And getting people to agree on anything as you can tell around here is not an easy task, even harder in your own nieghborhood's.
It's overwhelming all the thing's that need attention these day's.

Yeah, I feel the same: How in the world would Palmolive Colgate know anything about my german shepherds food needs.
Nor care..Purina also bought by Nestles,, hot chocolate anyone???
ANd the rest of them , come from China.,..oh boy.,poluted smelly, and full of corn and growth harmones pushed into the food in China for money making not health..
I would love to have the salary they pay a group of Marketing people to write the LIES on those dog food bags..Its down right funny to read what NAtural things they have in them..My bathtub and my steering wheel of my car are all made of natural things , also.

I agree with you all.I have tried the best of the best and I HATE THEM ALL.Its all about the dollar, but all of a sudden now they're sponsering our trials, clubs etc and everyone buys there food.I just got into it with R\C because they changed the formula TWICE in a matter of 5 or so months.WHY,well they say that the chicken meal in north america is hard to get so they had to tweek the formula.YEA RIGHT,at our dogs expense.I guess the MILLIONS they make in a year are not enough.I guess there is going to be many that will say "why dont you make your own food".I would love to but i just dont have the time as i work sometimes many hours a day.I guess ill stop ranting now.

Great thread and now I know who AhSighEE is. It would be nice if companies actually had to tell the truth on packaging. Nonof this calling it "Natural" when it's most deffinatly not.
