Interesting.I use an equine product that has been around for twenty plus years. But it is now "housed" in plastic instead of glass. The following are the ingredients.Crude Fish Oil,Raw Linseed Oil,Tea Tree Oil and Balsam of Fir.

"Calm Coat" Ingredients:  Canola oil, lavender, eucalyptus and tea tree oil.

I also like Gold Bonds Medicated Powder for Hot Spots, after I was them with an antibacterial soap and dry them well.

I gently wash and dry with tearless baby dog shampoo.

Then, apply neosphorin(didn't spell that right) and you can find a generic brand at wal mart.

If the spot is unbearable and dog is constantly licking it. They sell dog head collars at Petco which you see on dog after surgery the big plastic rings.

Gold Bond medicated powder or Ammens powder costs how much for what size bottle found in any Walmart etc? Would you explain why you use this for hotspots and not neosporin?

Rainhaus,

I started using it years ago, on the advice of an old time veterinarian, and it seems to "dry" hotspots very, very quickly.

I would imagine that the camphor in it has something to do with it.

The vet I currently use, now recommends it as well, as he has seen the results that I have with it.

Just plain old fashioned which is referred to as Liquid Wound Care...Put out by Cut Heal. Its not just for superficial wounds etc.In ref to neosporin..It has been so over used that people and animals are immune to any healing qualities...in that little tube. From what little research I do...causes allergic re-action etc etc.GEE, Lets all go out and buy a bandade(sp) for the human kids that already has neosporin on it.

Old vets are the best. They didn't push products..pharmaceuticals."They taught"!!! Sad to say but the majority of them are gone.Camphor has alot to do with it..a cooling etc.Simple cornstarch can be used........
