I have a 3 year old rescue GSD so we don't know her history. Her mother was pickd up as a very pregnant stray and gave birth the day she was placed into a foster home. Story goes that about 9 months after this dog was picked up, and she and her pups had all found homes, a person contacted that particular shelter asking if they'd seen/had a GSD who was lost that previous summer and very pregnant. This person claimed she was his quality bitch and her pups were worth a lot of money (personally I think on the puppy mill circuit) but anyway that is Molly's story.

One pup died shortly after birth, another died the first cold day that winter after playing outside, and Molly used to have mini seizures and now is wired wrong (recently put on Clomicalm for a variety of OCD behaviors).

I was curious as to what others might think of her heritage....mixed, pure, etc.

I've had one other Shepherd (white) and all Shepherd mixes prior to Molly. I know she's probably a product of poor breeding due to her variety of behavior issues but luckily she's healthy in body (last Shepherd I had was born with bad hips and developed liver disease at an early age).

Sorry for rambling - it's raining here in NH and I'm at work bored to tears. I foster Siamese cats for a Siamese cat rescue group and Molly is the BEST dog with cats. I've had many fosters go home to live with dogs, after never living with dogs. Molly mothers any kitten that comes in and accepts her.

Hello Mary,   nice to meet you & your pets.......

by MaryNH on 06 August 2008 - 16:08

oh there are more

4 cats of my own, plus one current foster

Missy, 13 year old sealpoint Siamese, my baby - and tormentor of Molly. Missy at 6 pounds can have Molly running with her tail tucked behind her legs.

Tilly, 10 year old bluepoint Siamese. My lovebug cat.

Dixie Chick, 12 year old (+/-) tuxedo  kitty. She came into rescue with a blind siamese. MaiTai moved to Kittery, ME and Dixie stayed.

Zeus, 7 year old, polydactyl orange tabby boy and only male cat in the house. He's got issues (thinks he has a harem but all the girls hate him).

And Catnip VA5579 is my current Siamese rescue foster. 10 year old tortie point

Hi Mary and welcome.  I think Molly is a purebred but like you said, probably out of American backyard breeder lines.  I've had a couple of those myself.  I wouldn't change them for the world though!

welcome. nice work with the kitties; my last cat was a tabby (lynx) point siamese - lived just past his 22nd birthday. we have a rescue who looks similar to molly in her coloring, but our gal has the body type of a belgian malinois. the agility too. rescues can be great dogs. ditto about the long healthy lives.

You deserve a medal for rescueing Kitties and have a nice girl Molly to be their boss.  HA HA...'

She looks pure bred, and glad her former owner never got his hands on  her..She is sweet and well behaved.

Welcome aboard...

Mary,

Your dog look's pure bred, maybe of common bloodline's, maybe a puppy mill or a byb.   Or maybe from a reputable breeder who's owner just didn't take care of her.    No real way to know and no direction to point finger's.

She looks well cared for and it's easy to see you love your animal's.

Good luck with the health issue's.

Brent.
