Im just wondering what would happen if we all would consider a rescue or shelter GSD..Would that clean up all the wanna bees if there were NO demand for puppies OR adult GSD's?Would that not starve off the crooks if we curb there sales? It would be wonderfull if that would happen now so that the blood could be cleaned up a bit and lets eliminate the lines that bring the horrible issues. Its sad to think how many poor dogs are in some of these facilities.

my dog is a rescue. I think she's 100% GSD but we'll always be unsure. Since I'm new I'll see if I can figure out how to post a picture.

Molly's mother was picked up as a very pregnant stray in Michigan. I had just lost my white Shepherd due to geriatric issues and the foster of Molly's family offered me one of her pups (I knew her through another dog board). We picked Molly up in New York state and brought her home to NH.

She's a bonehead!!! But she's our bonehead and we love her.

for many of us, that's probably a good choice. i have one rescue (from a shelter) and one from a breeder. while i hope our dogs live very long healthy lives (they're 33mos and 27mos), my husband and i have already agreed that in the future, one dog will be from a breeder and one from a rescue. but, we're "pet" people and a dogs pedigree isn't important except to us. i try to recommend people to a rescue group i send money to.

Hi Domenic,

My next dog will most likely come from a rescue. Maybe a senior or a special needs dog or one that isn't quite as pretty as most.  I think adopting from a rescue could go a long way in helping to reduce the GSD population in the US and maybe discourage so much overbreeding.

MaryNH, she looks like a purebred GSD to me. She's very pretty and looks quite content in her bed on your sofa. Can't let Blitz see that!!

LOL actually it's a catbed....Molly claims them all. Anything soft works for her. She has a bed I made for her, which she shares with the cats, so it's all good. As long as she doesn't attempt to get into the cat trees we're good

Some dogs will sleep anywhere. My first dog was a beagle mix, she loved to sleep inside a rolled up garden hose. Blitz likes the usual spots, the bed, the couch. Of course when he hears us coming, he's on the floor looking all innocent, but the hair he left behind is the proof. Did you see the TV commercial that shows the little dog lying on his owners' bed? When the owner comes home and calls his name, he jumps off and runs to  his own bed and acts as if he's sound asleep? That could be Blitz.

Blitzen Hi sweety, its always a pleasure to read your responses.Yes,i also thinks that is a GSD in the picture.I guess im entitled to my wishfull thinking in respect to my original post re the recues.I know that will never happen but what the hell, why not try to educate the average buyer and at the same time try to clean up the GSD bloodlines.I lost 2 in a years time and that was'nt a fun time especially when one was 1yr old.I guess i would like to see the rip-off artists gone once and for all.I do own a high quality male that had done well here in Canada but i ended up not getting him titled because i resigned from my club and i am very particular on whom i choose to work with.My other boy has drive for two dogs but is not of show quality but has awesome workability. Its to bad they are not titled but sometimes shit happens.I am a  TRUE GSD LOVER and would like to see the people WHO CAN and WHO ARE in the position to make the changes this breed so desperatly needs take action to finally once and for all make the changes happen.Until then ,i say lets look to the rescues and shelters for our dogs.Im sure there are plenty of GOOD dogs in these shelters all over the world.

My Bengals lost their bed the day I brought it home.  Sadie is my American bred "rescue" dog.  I actually paid $50 for her.

MI GSD what is a Bengal?I never heard of that.

The sad thing is, that for every dog rescued, a hundred more take its place.  So many who purchase a dog, be it in the newspaper or by other means, just can't wait to breed it. They don't take the time to learn anything about the breed, or if even their dog would be worth breeding. Its the human equation.
