Micah was a beautiful 19 month old male shepherd. I got him from my niece who could not afford to keep him due to personal problems.
Micah was alert, active and clearly highly intelligent. As a former handler for the Air Force during 'Nam it was a thrill to get this pup into our home. We currently have a Labrador Retriever who is 15yrs old. They got along great.
We got Micah in February and it wasn't until June that he showed any problems. He went through a seizure - and that was followed up by another about a half hour later. He seemed to be better the rest of the day and I was able to get him into my vets office the next day. They did a full blood and fecal work up on Micah and all the tests came out fine. Our Vet said to watch him but that the normal criteria was not to worry unless future seizures happened multiple times within a month or a seizure was extensively long.
This past Friday we woke up to Micah have a major seizure or rather going in and out of one seizure after another. By the time I was able to contact an emergency facility and get my car back from my son Micah was immoble and seemed unaware of what was going on around him. When we got him to the vet hospital his temp was 109 and the vets determined there was major heart and brain damage. We had to let him go.
The only background medical information I have learned is that because of his size the mother was delivered by C-section. Also it seems his only sibling - another male - had a "protein" allergy issue.
His is registered on here if you want to see a pic of him.

Good Evening,
I am so sorry for your tragic loss. This is a sad time, but he is in a far better place than to live a life with seizures.
He will be greatly missed by you, he was a beautiful dog.
Run and be free over the bridge waiting for you loved ones to come find you, Micah!
Take Care,
Rebecca

I'm sorry for your loss. In time your pain will ease and each day will be a little easier. Just remember to look up into the heavens at nite, your Micah will be the brightest star shining down on you.
Sincerely,
Debbie

One of Micahs' favorite things was to jump at reflected lights on the ceiling...or floor. We found out by accident when the wifes' watch crystal was reflecting sunlite on the ceiling. He could really leap high.

So sorry...he sure was a beautiful boy. It is just so hard when it happens so fast you can't be prepared, if you ever truly can...R.I.P. Micah , run free at the Bridge.

I'm so sorry about your dog! He looks like he was a beautiful boy. I wonder why the vet didn't prescribe medication for him?
My mom has a springer spaniel who began having seizures at the age of two. He's been on medication his entire life, and hasn't had a seizure in more than 8 years. He's now 14 years old, and they are thinking of putting him down, because he's having trouble walking, and has a sinus infection that is not responding to treatment. Nothing to do with the epilepsy at all...

I am so sorry about Micah. He was really a beauty.
I hope they will be able to help his brother avoid the same sad fate.
Some flames burn so brightly, for so short a time.

Your story hits close to home. I truly hurt for you. I am so sorry for your loss, and for having to watch your dog go thru what he did. It is truly distressing, but know there are others out there that have been down that road - and we are with you in spirit. My sincere sympathies.
