Has anyone know a bitch to get sick during the first part of a pregnancy?

yes, timeline can vary on the individual.  you may also see the occasional lack of appetite.

personally i have seen both out of our females.

Yes I have a bitch that is due to whelp in 10 days and she definately had morning sickness about 5 days post mating she ate grass every morning and vomited, this lasted appox. 6 - 7 days.

This is her first litter so I was pretty certain that she was pregnant.

I'm asking for a friend.  They did an artificial insemination, and thought the breeding hadn't taken.  The female began being sick each morning, about a week after the insemination.  So now they're wondering.

I will let them know it is quite possible.

Thanks everyone for your replys.

Yep, about a week or two after breeding, some of my females (not all) have lost their appetite - not usually gotten "sick" but definately gone off their food for a few days.  Doesn't seem to always mean they are pregnant though, unfortunately - but it is a good sign that they might be :)

Yes, but normally 3-4 weeks after mating. One of my females goes off her food in the mornings, she just looks at it making vomitting motions as if she has nausea. In the afternons she eats normally. This only lasts for a few days. My other female eats OK but sometimes is sick (small amount of yellowish stuff) in the mornngs for a few days - again 3-4 weeks in.

Yes. I've seen it about 2wks post-mating. Shocked me the first time, but then when I considered my own experience in pregnancy and how I got sick during the first 3 mos, the light bulb came on. :o) So yes, it's not cause for alarm unless severe.
