ROFLMAO....she's baaack! Howdy, Wildthing, why haven't you accepted my dinner invitations? I've asked you twice now to Sunday dinner and you've not shown up yet and 2 cakes would have gone to waste had I not fed them to my half breeds penned up back at the end of the chicken yard. How about tomorrow? Bring all your personalities along, Jill, Pat, Wildthing, the niece with the stolen dog I sold her and the husband if he's still around. How does noontime sound? BTW, the bitch you gave me pregnant just had a litter of 13, she's the one whoe hips didn't pass OFA and you weren't quite sure who was the daddy, but you wanted me to have her anyway. Are we registering them with your kennel name, mine or both as we did with the last litter that went to the Amish farmer in Lancaster?

I have shown numerous imports at AKC shows over the past 8 years. We have never obtained any points, but several class wins, and a Reserve Winners Male placement (over competition). We have placed very well at matches receiving several BOBs and even a Group 1. I personally think more people should start showing German lines at AKC shows. If more than one import were in a class it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. I have my fair share of stories about being treated poorly by AKC judges and other handlers, but if I didn't have thick skin I surely wouldn't be in this breed. You can never change something if you don't try. I think with time and persistence, what is correct would prevail.

Kaykohl Land! Thanks. And also Sue for that additional information. I personally believe a concerted effort should be made to break into the "AKC" GSD conformation ring. For those that are just looking in and not commenting, the handling fee for a show is around $100.00. Entry fee $20 - $25.00. Dogs should be groomed to the "T". Obtaining a championship title on a GSD costs approx. $3,000.00 (at least this has been the information I received). For those that are not able to participate in too many conformation shows SV style or even able to train along these lines , take your dogs to a "match" as Kaykohl mentioned above. It is excellent socialization and training. Entry fees are usually $5.00 and you can handle your own dog. It is all for the fun of it. I have personally always enjoyed the sport of doing something with my dogs and have always learned something along the way. I have also met some nice dogs and people too! Regards or Cheers! Sunny

Sunny, does it cost that much??damn!! i know some handlers who are actually better than some of the high profile ones, may charge less, about 65.00 75.00 and you can get a honest placing under an honest judge... couple of them will handle puppies for 45.00 or even less to get them out there. i have owner handled my dogs except my first GSD i had a jr do it. i also have my 11 yr old son who i will have handle when i feel he will stay off his belly in the ring LMAO (Creta doesnt double well... she will pull him like he is a rag doll, he isnt strong enough yet) but our new girl, she will be fine for him. As for matches, yes they are alot of fun... i showed my very very german girl at an AKC show and the judge was my co owners brother well, she didnt get last she got 4th out of 7 i think if i was. if she was back any farther i would have killed him LOL actually she really should have been 2nd her front which he commented was the best front in the class and her front reach was flawless... but she doesnt have the topline he prefers and i guess her red color stood out so bad.. that he felt pressured to NOT place her higher :D to share some insight, i showed this very same very red very german girl under Dan Smith and not only did she look absolutely clean and flawless and have a much better front than the whole class, again, her front reach was awesome when she opened up... problem was she likes to act up in the ring a little by not gaiting consistenly because she was looking for me (i had to leave the ring because she just pulls and wont gait at times) anyway... she placed 5th out of 6 and the number 6 bitch was the fill in bitch... lol so folks, Dan does NOT always pick german females over Am Breds.. she really should have been, again, at least 3rd, but the preference that day was that American look before us.. the first bitch was a nice bitch though had no problem being behind her. As for the post about Dr. Morton Goldfarb and politics, if anyone knows Dr. Goldfarb or has spoken to him knows.. he does not do the politics game... he doesnt just place a german dog up front of an AM Bred at an AKC show.. that german dog has to be better than the Am Bred according to the AKC standard, this dog has to have sound temperament etc... he doesnt give out placings. Dr. Goldfarb is honest and if your dog won under him its because he deserved too. If someone has proof otherwise, i would be surprised. There are not many judges you can be comfortable saying that they are NOT into the politic titles/ratings etc... its not correct to compare the two judges mentioned above, together that they are the same, they are two different people, two different backrounds and respected differently. regards, Dawnmarie

Hi Dawnmarie! Seems as though a few people are coming out of the closet. LOL! It was put to me this way: "You may well spend up to $3,000 for a breed championship and still not having to show for it." I don't have personal experience. If I would entertain doing something like this, a professional handler would be the only way to go. They know the judges and their preferences. For our German dogs, the "All Breed" ring is the only place for us to go not the GSD Specialty. Take care, you all! Sunny

by Blitzen on 06 December 2004 - 19:12

Dawnmarie, I was only making the suggestion of showing an import to either of these judges since they both like imports. It was not meant as an endorsement of either of their qualifications. I only know Smith, not Goldfarb.
