Canyon Crest K9.
Curious if anyone's trained w/ him.
Thanks!

> He has been training obedience and other classes for over 30 years. I worked with him many moons ago. If you look on his site in the LEO section I am the military dog handler giving my critque of his training. He has assisted many LEO K-9 programs over the years with training. He uses no harsh methods either.
> he is very knowledgable in all phases of dog training and is very easy to work with.

I know someone that has attended his training classes and was satisfied.
I myself met with Ron once, in connection with a mixed beed rescue dog that suffered from serious fear aggression. He explained that he would "String the Dog up by the leash" until she stopped struggling, if she got aggressive, That, was not the approach i wanted to take and declined his services.

Thanks. My dog is already trained in novice AKC obedience (he won't be a schutzhund dog), and I would like to move forward in tracking and personal protection.
jdadenton, how did you end up dealing w/ the severely fear aggressive dog? I've seen the "stringing up" method work for some very aggressive dogs, as horrible as it sounds and looks to someone that doesn't realize, that it's that or euthanasia for some dogs. I'm all for rehab-ing the dog if possible, and I'm curious to learn other methods for that problem. (It's not my dog that has this problem!)

Yes, Ron was not the only one to suggest the hard approach, although he seemed to advocate "breaking" the dog, something i was not ready to do unless it was the only option (i don't believe in putting a dog down unless its quality of liffe is suffering). It should be noted that she was a very sweet dog, not at all mean, simply fearful and would react adversly in situations she was not comfortable in.
Odd though it may seem, 6 months on prozac, with the introduction of positive experiances made a huge difference. For example, she was very head shy, yet on prozac, didn't seem to mind being petted. Seems during this time, she became acustom to "not being affraid" and was much better able to face her fears once off prozac. She never completely overcame all fears, but she was able to control it better and learned to take herself away from a situation rather than make a stand. Let me also add, she lived to be 12 without ever hurting anyone or anything.
If you are looking at Ron Pace, then we must be in the same part of the country, I noticed from a previous post your dog likes herding. Do you take him to Ewe-topia?
I would be interested in hearing what you find or your experiances, i'm much in the same position, looking to start Tracking and Herding or possibly schutzhund with my 6 month old.

I really recommend Ewetopia. We've been going there since my pup was 3 months old, and they've done a wonderful job teaching him and me! He's 9 months now, and I feel the herding training has really helped him gain control of his prey drive. It gives him a healthy outlet for it, and I can "out" him and call him back if a rabbit or cat unexpectedly races by. I've always felt comfortable there; both the trainers and other dog lovers are very helpful and friendly. Everyone is there because they adore their dogs and spending time w/ them, so I fit right in!
I'm glad prozac worked for your dog. I've heard mixed results w/ it.
