I noticed this topic earlier and wanted to ask some questions about this food. For the most part, it seems all are happy with it. I was talking to a local breeder and they said they liked the food but stop using it because it is in big chunks and the dogs had a hard time eating it. And it was harder to measure out at feeding time. Has anyone else experienced this problem? My dogs are currently on Diamond's Beef and Rice and I feed 3 dogs 2 cups twice a day total (4) cups and one dog that is a very hard keeper and he gets 3 cups twice daily or a total of (6) cups a day. Would someone feed the Royal Canin German Shepherd 24 in the same quantity or is the food more concentrated? Also, how long did you take to switch them over? My dogs live in the house so I don't want any accidents. I truly appreciate your input. Carrie

Khul Dawg. I've been using the RC GS 24 now for about half a year and must say that we are very happy with this dog food. I do not think that one can reduce the amount of food given to each dog in opposit to other high quality dog foods. But I do feel that the advantages are in coat-quality and the amount of food given in contrast of cheaper alternatives. Can't really understand the problem with the size of the chunks. The GS 24 is produced and recommended for adult GSD and any adult dog of that size should be able to get this down. If a GSD have "problems" eating this then I don't think the problem is the size of the chunks. Looking back I can not remember a singel problem with swithing over on neither of our dogs.

I feed this food to 25 GSDs. I will say that yes, I find using a small dry measure cup to measure it out is a pain. I also do note that dogs who tend to wolf down their food fast have more trouble with the shape of these chunks, but they have trouble with most kibbles so I just try to slow them down eating by making them sit periodically to swallow! My only complaint is that it is expensive, but so are most other good foods. I trust the quality control of RC much more than some of the other supposedly premium foods that come from small companies.

Hi...I feed this food and have since July or so. I am very impressed with it and my picky eater loves it. The shape of the food makes my dog eat slowly and I have heard this reduces the chance of bloat. I have had a lot of trouble in getting her to eat and she has always been thin. She has done wonderful on this food, along with prozyme and a multi-vitamin daily. However, her breeders fed Diamond and recommend it. I also know a lot of people who feed Natural Choice if you are interested in checking it out.

I like the responses I'm hearing from all of you and I'm just about convinced to give it a try. Since I wrote this note I went to my local pet food store and bought a sample bag to see if my guys like it. Sorry, I forgot to ask this the first time but how do you all feed this food. Do you give it to them dry or do you add water? Thanks so much for all your replies. Carrie

All I can say is, if Royal Canin is good for VA1 Zamp Vom Thermodos then it MUST be good for your dog!

I have fed Royal Cainin GS 24 for the past year and all 3 of my gsd's do wonderful on it.  Dogs never seemed to experiene problem with the chunk size, although I agree using a small measuring cup was a pain.  I switched to a scoop which works well.  Glad to hear my Molly's Sire Zamp is also on the same food!

This is by far my food of choice, next to RAW. I have been through so many brands and the dogs do very well on this. Especially my very active dogs with ridiculous drive that are moving all day long. They were alays too think (no parasites, etc) , and once I started them on Royal Canine German Shepherd, they soon put on some weight. Its a great food! This is all I will use now.

I changed from RC when the food scare about the wheat started. I had dogs blood check and they were running high on the bun and creatine levels, so I changed, now I have a problem with the calicum level, but the other levels are down. Very frustrated.
