Ok...I rescued this big bi-color shepherd today. Even though I said no way is it coming to my house,,,,,,well.....he's at my house. This was an emergency rescue and I was at work when someone let me know about this dog and that it was going to be turned over to animal control today (Monday).....so I drop my paid work...(go figure) and tell my husband to go get this dog. I have found a home for him BUT...when I got home and met the gsd in question...this dog has GOT to belong to someone....so I want to see if I can find an owner....why do I say this? Well, he's healthy, he did have some ticks on him but no fleas. His paws are a bit swollen from being on the move. He's about 100 lbs, bi-color, teeth look good.
Far be it from me to be afraid of big, strange, 100 pound black german shepherds....I get home, put a kennel lead on him and take him to the bathroom. He's good on leash, did not walk right into the shower per say but close enough. Stood calmly as I bathed and scrubbed him (thank god temperament is good because its not like I was not presenting my neck to rip open as I bathed should he have any such desire...THEN I blow dried him and he was not afraid of it. Ok, THEN I clipped his nails without any stuggle whatsoever. He knows the basic commmands as well. Someone is missing a nice dog. Soo gentle taking food from hand,,,,,,
So, I have one big, shiny, full-belied, tick free, bi-clored male in my spare bedroom, contentedly sleeping in a crate.
He was found in Crawford, AL. I am going to make an honest attempt to see if he is missing an owner, If not I did find him a forever home...but if it were one of my dogs . I am thinking DDR lines. Nothing about him is American show line.
This is the best place I know for GSD super highway. If you lost this dog, now is the time to have a very convincing story of how you have been searching relentlessly to find....."Joe" (I was singing to him in the shower ...where did ya come from cotton eyed joe...this the name...he was amused.). I will not release him unless you are his proven owner.
I know I have said NO...NO...NOOOOO....17 times before to no avail....so I won't even bother saying no he can't stay here....I am the dang Doggie Motel 6....dang it....
I'll check this board tomorrow for any hits. Permission to cross post...thanks

Have you checked for micro chip? tattoo?
Is he young, old, intact?
by StinkyK9 on 05 August 2008 - 05:08
I'm sure you did, but just in case you didn't... make sure to list him at the animal shelter in case the owners go there to look....
You can place a free found ad on craigs list... nothing there yet, I just checked...
Good Luck....

I would second checking him for tattoo/microchip. I have a list of several German Shepherds placed in the Columbus area through rescue that have chips. If he does, let me know at the email below and I will check my list.
Mary --I think we already know each other... don't we:) :)

Yes, I have checked for tattos in ears and inside thigh and scanned him all over from head to toe. Nothing.
He slept quietly in a crate all night long. No accidents. He is a perfect Gentleman. He is the epitomy of Nobility and is acting like a Dignitary. If I DO track down an owner there had better be sufficient tears and a happy re-union scene with running and licking....like at the end of the movie Homeward Bound......to convince me that they have been desperate and distraught without him. I won't send this noble creature to anything less....and he will never see the inside of a shelter, Ever...even if I do have to re-arrange my house.....again......
Two Moons: I am guessing his age between 2 and 3...his teeth are all in and in good condition. Only very slight wear.
Stinky: What is Craigs list?
MARY...YES we do know each other. I was thinking of you because he reminded me of your big guys.
Pagan: Yes I will attempt to post a picture or two in a seperate post.

You're very welcome. You can post your own found ad on both those sites but I wouldn't be too specific.

I will. It may have to be tonight because I am limited on what I can access from work.
