enlarged vulva - Page 1

Im a first time breeder. My pregnant bitch is at 57 days. Is it normal for the vulva to be very swollen and the size of a softball. Looks very painful but no whinning. Should I be worried. Could it be a puppy on the way out? Please send reply quickly.

It should be very soft and kinda floppy at 57 days, enlarged, too, but kinda down pointing--it's her body getting ready to have those puppies.

Do you have a whelping box already setup for your bitch? 57 days is very close to whelping date and you might want to get in contact with your vet tomorrow morning to possible schedule an early appointment to get your bitch medically checked up.

If you think you need some assistance with your bitch in delivering you might want to get your vet involved, that way if something does happen that she'll recieve full medical care that she will need including a C section if she needs one.

Thanks for the comments and her whelping box is ready. She'll get in it but doesnt want to lay down. She has her eye on a hard to get to area in the basement so I blocked that area and put the box  in front of it.

iT SOUNDS LIKE YOU SHOULD ENCLOSE THE BIRTHING BOX AND HAVE AN ACCESS DOOR THAT SHE CANNOT GET OUT OF.

Germans are famous for escaping and finding a place to bury and root out a hole and have them hidden in a blink of any eye.  Is this her first litter.?

You can install a fan in top and a light and then no worry. Let her out often and she will get the message. Your the boss and she is having them in the box not out of the box.
