I would like to know if anyone knows of Schutzhund clubs on the West Coast,     Northern CA, OR, WA.

I don't see a huge difference between "clicker" training and using a verbal mark.  Operant conditioning is the same no matter what method it is delivered in.  A verbal followed up with the reward to me seems much easier as I don't have to carry a clicker around with me, and for whatever reason I just don't like the sound of the clicker.  I'm not bashing clicker training, as I said the operant conditioning is the same.

Why wouldn't a club allow it if they understood the concept?

Tina, There are clubs that have "discouraged" clicker training, because the "Master Trainer of the Universe" runnimg the club rejected it/didn't understand it/felt threatened by something different. RKS, You can't be interested in actually training at a club ANYWHERE on the Whole West Coast. Where are you located?

As noted above it is more common to use a word as a marker than a clicker but I believe these trainers would work with you.  Joel Monroe, a great guy, http://www.bvdt.net/  trains at his home location in Delhi and at Menlo Park Sch Club and at a DVG club down in Delano.  David Dembrouski in Vacaville. Michael Ellis if you can ever connect with him.  I'm sure there are others but this should give you a start.

Are you wanting to use the clicker as part of the protection as well as obedience?  Some people focus more on using it in obedience and actually use a specialty trainer for that like Denise Fenzi ( sp? of last name).
