With the flesh eating human scum and monsters out there, should one really go anywhere without a little hide-out piece?

Yes, I read this in a Canadian newspaper web site already and it is so abhorrent it is beyond the pale. There are sadly some really sick people in this world, all around the world. If you look at international news daily as I do, you see it everywhere, not just in the US.

But Abhay, let us not dwell on such topics at the party...... Did Two Moons steal that car yet?

Canada has very strict firearm laws, and your average citizen is not allowed to own a handgun, let alone have a permit to carry one concealed. There is a big problem with illegal firearms, and gang warfare in cities such as Toronto, but after several raids on housing developments known to be havens for drug dealers and gangs, the number of homicides is way down in Toronto the Good this summer. Needless to say, a whole arsenal of illegal weapons was siezed during those raids.

Police have been also cracking down on cross-border trafficking of illegal weapons, and I believe this has helped too. The incident under discussion here is just an isolated, bizzare murder done by someone who obviously needed psychiatric help, but was unwiling to get it. I am far more concerned about drug and gun trafficking, and the criminal gangs who are involved in this.

Unlike the States, Canadians do not believe that arming their citizens is the answer to the problems of violence due to the drug trade and the gangs who make their living this way. Our history is quite different: if you ignore Louis Riel, and the rebellions he caused, we had no wild west, with vigilante justice, no shootouts in the street at high noon. This was largely due to the RCMP (originally North Western Mounted Police) and their efforts to track down lawbreakers and keep the peace.

Vive la difference. My home has never been broken into, though I rarely lock the back door which leads to the backyard. This is because anyone entering that way would have to walk across a small deck which is just outside the French doors that provide access to the backyard. My dogs would both hear them and see them as they do this. I have lost stuff from my car, though, when I forgot to lock the doors.

The prevalence of firearms in the States, and the problems with drugs, which are mainly responsible for the high number of break-ins are the main reasons why I would not want to live there.

Hmmm...add George Bush and his politics to the above list...

I believe The Rock Machine, have had quite a few shootouts in the streets there. I understand they will be making a strong comeback soon.

The Rock Machine? Is that a street gang, Abhay?

Bikers, who are mortal enemies of Hell's Angels.

I've seen lots of Hell's Angels in my part of Ontario, but have never seen this gang, nor even heard of them until now. I hope they're not about to hit the headlines, either!

The Hell's Angels used to have a chapter club house right on Yonge St. in Richmond Hill, just north of the Summit Golf and Country Club.  Long gone now, I'm glad to say.

Our main problem is with young blacks,  mostly of Jamaican ancestry or origin, who have formed street gangs. (There are a few Chinese and Vietnamese gangs as well, plus a sprinkling of the so-called "Russian Mafia.) Generally, they live in public housing projects in the Jane-Finch area, Regent's Park, or the Martingrove-Steeles area of Toronto. Many of the law-abiding citizens in these developments are afraid to go outside their doors after dark. Of course, if there is a shooting, no one saw anything or heard anything, because if they DO report to the police, they will be the gang's next target. The monther of a 15 year old boy  who was shot to death in a school stairwell not long ago has been very helpful to the police, and has begged people to come forward and tell what they know. She has had numerous death threats made against her, and recently, shots were fired at her and her daughters as they sat in front of their home http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20080724/Loreensmall_shooting_080724/20080724/?hub=TorontoNewHome

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2007/06/15/raids-arrests.html

When one of these gang enclaves was raided, a woman stood in front of her apartment door, and shouted at the police, "You're taking away our livelihood!"

When you hear something like that, you KNOW your city has a BIG problem...

Forget about the Rock machines!!!  All in prison now..They busted tem one time and put in jail about 3/4 of the gang.  Same with the Hell Angels..Now it's street gang party..MUCH WORSE!!

But the police here in montreal have a very close look at them ..little things happens once in a while but never like in the US.  When i'm listening to CNN or FOX news I just can't beleive my ears how America is violent..And I mean USA. In a city ike Montreal (about 3 millions people) only about 50 murder a year and most are gang related. Not a lot compare to othersimilar  american cities

Here in canada we don't think we should treat violence with violence.  We are against Death Penalty and don't beleive it is working..we don't have to look very far to confirm that either!!  We firmly beleive in peace for everybody and don't want to have to defend ouselves with guns..Only in province like Alberta (wo is much closer to USA i thinking) there is still cowboys remainning and fighting for this right..Only about Hunting guns are aloud and you need to pass to a lot of process to get it.

Most of my friends don't even lock their doors at night!! That says it all...
