"On Saturday, animal control officers found and rescued 38 dogs - including puppies a few days old - from Brunette's property on Hartman Creek Road. His home was littered with crates that contained feces and urine, she said.
A search of the property uncovered a decapitated dog's head, five canine skulls and a dead dog next to a lawn chair on a deck atop the home, Geisreiter said.
When authorities returned to the home Tuesday, they found two dog paws and a sixth dog skull, raising the possibility that Brunette had returned to his property to deposit the items.
Two more live dogs were found Tuesday and are being treated along with the 38 others. An additional eight dogs are believed to be somewhere on the 3-acre property.
Sheriff's deputies and animal control officers raided the home a day after Brunette refused to grant access to authorities investigating reports of animals crying in pain, Geisreiter said.
When officers returned Saturday with a search warrant, Brunette ran away, authorities said.
The dogs that are being treated by the county include cane corsos, also known as Italian mastiffs, rottweilers and Labrador retrievers. Brunette had been selling dogs in the Bay Area, authorities said.
The dogs are not yet adoptable, Geisreiter said. Some are scared of humans and are unsocial, and animal control officers hope to nurse them back to health before deciding whether to put them up for adoption."

This story will REALLY make you sick-people have been trying since 2002 to get this monster shut down and arrested.

Gary Mountain of Cupertino went to Brunette's property in 2004 after seeing one of his ads for a pure bred Cane Corso.
"I have a real one from Italy and I knew there were no Cane Corso breeders in the nine-county Bay Area," he said. "I looked at his dogs and said those are Neopolitans bred with pit bulls."
When Mountain arrived at the property, Brunette "made me run my shoes through a little bucket of Clorox. He said he didn't want his dogs to get infected from human bacteria. The whole place was full of feces."
"He kept telling me he was breeding the 'macho dog' that would be more powerful than pit bulls and be great for dog fights or guide dogs."
Mountain said he went back home and started a letter, e-mail and fax campaign to try to get authorities to do something about the dogs in Boulder Creek. Nothing was done, until last weekend.
William Fritz of Los Banos had gone to Brunette's property in December after a friend said he knew of a guy who had two Cane Corsos for sale. The breed is also known as Italian mastiffs and can sell for as much as $1,000 to $2,000. Fritz's friend said this guy had two 11-month-old puppies for sale for $500 each.
"From the outset, I thought it was a little strange because he asked me to bring him dog food out of my pocket," Fritz said. "He wanted the cheapest dog food you could get."
Fritz said he followed a windy road that turned into a dirt road and finally found Brunette's property, where he had "maybe 15 adult dogs and 20 puppies."
"He brought me to the back of his property and said, 'Oh yeah, I have these two males (Cane Corsos).' They were in an 8-foot-by-8-foot kennel filled with feces and the dogs should have weighed 110 pounds; they weighed 45 pounds and had no hair on their bodies. You could see their spinal cords."
Fritz said he looked at Brunette and said, "'This is sad, man. These dogs are on the verge of death.' He said, 'Yeah, I'm pretty much leaving them back here to die.' "
He refused to pay $500 for the dogs, offering instead $100 for both to get them out of there, Fritz said.
Fritz kept one, spent $1,500 "to bring him back to life," and a friend kept the other.
"I named him Trooper because he's been a trooper," Fritz said. "He could have given up long ago but he knew I was coming."

A tip from a concerned neighbor resulted in the rescue by Santa Cruz County Animal Services of 38 dogs and puppies from a Boulder Creek breeder who kept the animals penned in filthy crates, and even a truck. In many cases, the dogs did not have access to food or water.
Worse, severed dog heads were hung around the property and a deceased dog's body was found on the roof of the home. Dog skeletons were also found on the property.
The dogs included cane corsos, Labradors, Rottweilers and mixes of those breeds.
The rescued animals ranged in age from puppies only two days old to the dog penned in the truck covered with his own feces, who was estimated at 13 to 14 years old, according to Animal Services spokesperson Tricia Geisreiter.

What took so long for the authorities to act?Why does nobody do anything about people like this?I know that if i had knowledge of a bastard like this in my area,he would'nt get away with it for long .It would be nice to tie him up and leave him in the middle of that feces with no food OR water.Let him eat and drink shit like he let those poor animals do.Imagine for one minute how those poor animals must of felt with this POOR EXCUSE of a man mistreating them like that. What was this mother fkr thinking?I cant beleive that the system lets these types exist.I guess you all can tell im a little pissed.

Domenic -
I know how you feel unfortunately the authorities can not go on the property without a warrant. Without documented evidence they can't simply go onto the property. As the article stated, they responded on a neighbor complaining they could hear a dog screaming in pain. That go them to the property to knock on the front door. When he ran and they could see more of the property I am sure the Judge agreed to give a warrant. It is unfortunate but even with the fighting/game dogs, there is a long investigation to be sure there is enough to prosecute. Without this it the case may not stand up in court and the guy could get off.
It's just unfortunate that every community has someone like this (maybe not quite as bad with the severed heads, etc) but it's just the matter of finding them and bringing them to justice.
