I am looking at a dog from Belgium.  He was never AKC registered after coming to this country.  How do I AKC register him if I get him?  He has Belgium registry papers.

You get a Bescheinigung from the former owner in Belgium showing it was sold to you. Complete the AKC Foreign Registration Form, send in a copy of the pink papers, a side and a front picture of your dog, a copy of the Bescheinigung, and $50 to AKC. Takes about two weeks after mailed in to get.. At least that's how it's done with German imports

I registered my pup that I imported from Belgium with AKC.  I didn't need a Bescheinigung, the Belguim registration papers (LOSH) showed that I was the owner of the dog.  I did have to fill out the AKC foreign dog registration application, sent a color photocopy of the original papers, along with a front and side view of the dog alongwith  the proper fee and had no problems getting her AKC registration papers.  Just to be sure, call the AKC registration department and ask for a clarification.  That way when you do send them in, there will be no problems.

Make sure that you do NOT send the original LOSH registration papers.  Send a color photocopy.  That way, your original papers are safe and there is no chance of them getting lost.

You have to get an export pedigree.  I have registered three Belgium dogs with the AKC, but someone always did the export pedigree for me.  If it has the new owner's name, it is because the export pedigree was already done.  You need to contact the LOSH and see what they require for a fee.  Inquire with the LOSH what they need for documentation, what is the fee, and what their bank information is for the wire transfer.  Most likely, someone there speaks or reads English.    http://www.srsh.be/

1. Make sure that the previous owner signed in the correct spot on the export pedigree and you know where to sign as well.

2. If someone else imported the dog, you need to have them sign the AKC foreign registration paperwork as well.
