Wow! What an intense and stressful bunch of threads we have happening right now... Whew. A Days worth of coffe isn't enough to get me through. How about we take a few moments to regroup and educate... Below you will find three books I found to be helpful to me in Learning about the breed and breeding. I have enough books to fill the walls of my home office but I can never read enough about Shepherds and Breeding and Genetics etc... I am always looking for more information, What have you found helpful in the resourse department and where can we get them?
Here are mine:
1) The Police Dog: A study of the German Shepherd Dog By David Brockwell Copywrite 1925. Deffinately out of print but a wonderful informational read. I had to hunt around for this one, Found a used copy through ebay.
2) Working Dogs: By Elliot Humphrey and Lucien Warner Copywrite 1934 This book describes the earlier efforts of breeding Shepherds to produce dogs that have superior intelligence, disposition and workability. Lucked out on this one, found it on a dusty shelf at an elderly friends house.
3) Genetics An Introduction for Dog Breeders By Jackie Isabell Copywrite 2002. This was a hard read but deffinately worth it. I think this was found through Barnes and Noble.

A good general GSD reference is The Total German Shepherd by Fred Lanting. You can buy the book from Fred's website at http://www.fredlanting.org/
