This is simply an extension of the technology that exists now for hazardous materials detection units. Eventually, yes, technology likely will produce these devices that are even more sensitive than they are now, and which will be much smaller and portable. As of now, that is not the case. But, knowing an explosives detection dog and knowing he gets tired and cannot work all day, knowing how much training and re-training goes into these dogs, I suspect when the time is here where devices are accurate, portable and reliable, they will be carried and utilized. That does not necessarily mean dogs will not be useful. I believe they will always be used in one way or another.

I agree Dog is an integral part of the human society from very primordial times. Man dog relationship is very age old and will never die. Maybe the dogs would be put to a better more use for the humanity as they have been for centuries. Their use can evolve with times.
