Hmmm, have you ever had a GSD before?  Apparently not.  2 years old, only after OFA and other health clearances have been done!  Is your dog titled in any way shape form?  Or is it a family pet?  I think you need to find out a little more before you think about studding your dog......

took the words out of my mouth, shepherd woman.......how do you even know who he is and if he has what it takes...

I'm sure physically its possible, but totally unnecessary

With so many nice breeding males (and females) that have great hips, elbows, that have proven themselves on the field and off, why bring in another that has not proven themselves.

Never before 2.5 years NEVER

cheers

Just because he's capable of being a stud doesn't mean he ought to be. I'm not trying to diss your dog, but toss in another voice that says:

Minimum 2 years old with health checks (hips / elbows) is the very least that has to be done for a breeding male.

And even if he passes clear, one has to evaluate whether or not he has something to contribute to his progeny that will, if not improve, at least maintain desirable characteristics within the GSD breed standard according to the ideals (American / German / workingline) by which he is classified.

Pushpendra  I see that you are new to the board and I say Welcome !!!!! How long have you been with the German Shepherd breed? Is this your male dog?

As for you question I have to agree with the other post but was wanting to know why you want to use your male as a stud? What do you think he will pass on to his puppies? What do you like about your dog that you would want more of him? What don't you like about him? Do you have plans on working him or showing? Have you done any training with him? Can you tell us about his Temperament? Do you have pictures of him and a pedigree that you can share with us? do you know about OFA or SV?

Remember we are here to HELP you learn more about this breed and to give knowledge to better the breed.

The general public just doesnt know.  I had so many people this last heat cycle ask me how much longer I was going to wait until I "finally" bred my female.   Average pet owner type people.

Try explaining to them that your dog isn't NEAR making a decision about breeding, and it still way too young, and they look at you like you have three heads.

FWIW,  my female is 20 months,  no xrays,  not ready for a title,  and no other health clearances.  But it was her third heat and that appears to be the general pet concensus on the street for when you breed a dog.  It's a little sad that these are also the majority of "puppy shoppers" out there,  and they don't really know what to look for  in breeder either.   They would happily purchase a puppy from me right now,  and believe they were getting a great dog.

It surprised me really to get so many comments, and so many people who thought I was being overboard about all the things that you are "supposed" to do.  So I'm guessing that's where this person is coming from,  getting comments or maybe even offers and just not really knowing.

I agree that 13 months is way too young.
