A couple weeks ago I posted about finding some TOTW "High Prairie" formula with oil seeping out of the bag and nobody else had seen this problem.  Well, I went back to the same store today to find the same thing again.  Please note, this was two different shelves and two different size bags (15lb and 30lb) and both had oil leaking out of them.  No dog pee, no salmon oil spilled, it was coming out of the bag.  Yes, the heavy foil like plasitc bag.  Oh and the exp. date was Sep. 08

So I ask one of the young girls about it and she says "oh yeah, it has oil in it cuz when we moved them there was oil all over the floor"  DUH.  She wasn't the least bit concerned and when I pointed out that the smallest 5lb bags were not oily she tried to tell me that there was more oil in the big bags!  Holy Cow!  I didn't try to argue with her.  I figured if she was that dense that I wouldn't get anywhere.  I guess she doens't realize that the percentage of oil in the kibble will be the same no matter how big the bag is.....Maybe I'm the stupid one here and they put different food in different size bags, DON"T THINK SO.

Any way, I'll get off my soap box now.  My theory is that somtime during shipment or storage this food must have been left in the heat where the oil leached out of the kibble and is now puddled up in the bottom of the bag.  I purchased another bag of the Wetlands Formula and will hold out for a new shipment of the High Prairie that's not oozing all over the place.

Thanks

Oil is a constituent of the food. Oil leaks and if the integrity of the bag is not good, yes, you will see oil from the food. Just pick up a piece of any brand of food that has oil in it, and they all do *(it is what type that should be an issue) and you will have oil all over your hand. I use kibble to train tracking and constantly have to wash my shorts or jeans because of oil if I don't use a plastic bag. So I think you are making too much out of this. Personally, I don't use your food  choice, but it is not because it has oil in it.

hodie, I know that lots of dog foods have oil in them, but the amount that is leaking in this case is excessive. After all, you don't see puddles down the aisle in the dog food section at the store. I just wanted to give people a "heads up" to watch for this same issue. I am a perfectionest, maybe I just exptect to much. I don't know.

Travel time,

Thanks for letting us know your findings. I for one appreciate it.

I have been considering this food but I wouldn't be happy if it was wading in oil either.

What are you doing about your food situation? Can you get it at another location? If so, is this other location's food as oily?

I think we all need to expect perfection, or at least excellence.  Things are slipping because we don't speak up when there's a problem, be it with dog food or service at a store.  Did you contact TOTW?   Did you talk with the manager of the store?  I would do both........

Off my soap box now.

So far I've probably purchased 6 bogs of TOTW and have never noticed any oil leaching through the bags. These bags are very heavy foil, I'm not sure how that can even happen, but I haven't bought the Prairie formula either.

Blitzen,

Which formula do you feed?

Birdy, your welcome. For now I am feeding the Wetlands formula. It does not have the canola oil in the ingredients like the Prairie and Pacific do. The stange thing is that even though the Pacific formula has oil, those bags were not leaking. There is another store that sells it about 40 miles from me and I plan on calling them tomorrow to see if they have noticed the same thing. Animules, your right about things slipping. Well never mind, I don't want to fall off my box again, LOL! I will also be contacting the company tomorrow to see what they have to say about it. I'll let you guys know if I get any good info, other than a bunch of recordings.

Ok guys, I just submitted a question on the TOTW website.  I left my number and email so we'll see.  I may still call them during business hours tomorrow.
